Album info

Recently finished this kit I received for Christmas. I chose to represent an aircraft from VA-153 "Blue Tail Flies" flying off the USS Oriskany. VA-153 transitioned from A-4F Skyhawks to A-7As in 1969, and continued using the type until transitioning to A-7Bs in 1973.

The kit came with six 250lb MK81s for the outer pylons, twelve 500lb MK82s for the middle, and two fuel tanks for the inner pylons. I chose to ditch the MK81s because they weren't used frequently, but mostly because I had just hand-painted the double yellow stripes on the MK82s and I didn't want to do it on an even smaller bomb. So I replaced the MK81s with Zuni rocket pods from the Hasegawa weapons set I have. Navy aircraft used Zunis extensively in Vietnam. I also replaced the fuel tanks with 2000lb MK84s from the same set because they're much cooler than bags.

Included in the album is a Revell 1/72 F4U-1A Corsair. It's really interesting to me to compare the sizes between the two. I knew the A-7 was a fairly small aircraft, but I didn't rea
