Interesting Jos! Beware of the specific block 1 details. Also, good luck with those ancient decals.. Definitely following mate!
21 December 2018, 21:11
Erik Leijdens
Before painting the rest of the vertical stabilizer beware to remove the "in flight refeulling light" on the leading edge. Blocks 1 to 10 didn't have those.

Jos Jansen
@Rick; thx man, grab a seat, @Hans; Let me then build a nice tribute to the good old Viper!

@Erik; I want to build this in between while I'm working on my Rafale M. I believe I have those old decals for more than 25 years. I had already started with this viper at the time but never finished it. I have to reconstruct something with this version ... your tips Erik are very valuable. If you have more tips for me, I'd love to hear from you.

Erik, I do have a question for you, where did you get those old size stabilizers from the first versions F-16's..?
21 December 2018, 21:45
Jos Jansen
Thx Erik, already ordered...🙂!

Also see my album of the Block 10, a couple of similarities with a 1

checko .... I have followed the construction of your Block 10!

Following! Have recently bought a bunch of Dutch Decal sets and these were among them......

10-4 Jos!
22 December 2018, 21:08
Jos Jansen
@Wim; I already have a bad experience with these ancient decals from Dutch Decals 🙁 Even with a lot of decal softener I did not succeed! I am busy airbrushing the vertical stabilizer but hopefully, the golden letters will go smoothly. .?!
22 December 2018, 21:16
Jos Jansen
Afterwards the decals of Dutch Decals proved to have had their best time ... you were right Erik, they are indeed ancient! I have changed to airbrush the tail by hand, hopefully I can still use the gold colored letters!

Following!
24 December 2018, 15:05
Wim van der Luijt
did they disintegrate or were they too thick?
25 December 2018, 13:19
Jos Jansen
No disintegration, they were actually too thick, the edges also curled. Even with a large portion of decal softener it did not work. Do you have experience with this ...?
25 December 2018, 23:28
Wim van der Luijt
no, but similar experience with Flevo Decals sheets, I ended up mixing my own softener out of acetone and IPA, that did the trick....proceed with caution though
26 December 2018, 10:57
Erik Leijdens
Looks good Jos!!
And Wim, did you use beer as a decal softener? 😄
28 December 2018, 12:49
Wim van der Luijt
👍 yes either the decals go soft or my perception 😄
28 December 2018, 18:04
Jos Jansen
Happy, I received today by mail the conversion set with the smaller horizontal stabilo's for a block 1 version...!

Simultaneously building two jets (also a Rafale M) takes time, finally getting a little bit further with my Dutch anniversary Viper ...

Whauw! Ziet er al goed uit! 👍

Hopefully I will be ready with the pre-shading this weekend.

Konrad -
Nice looking doubleseater Falcon so far 👍! Keep on your great work and you have another eyecatcher!
19 January 2019, 17:57
Erik Leijdens
Very nice Jos! Are you planning to add the AOA probes? Quite prominent thingies on either side of the radome. Hasegawa didn't mould them but Master have very good brass ones!
19 January 2019, 18:31
Jos Jansen
@Konrad...thx mate, appreciate your comment!

@Erik....It is very unfortunate that Hasegawa did not molded these angle of attack probes on the radome as Kinetic did. I know this brass set from Master, I have already ordered it once and used it on one of my previous projects, a Thunderbird Viper from Tamiya. I still have a set of Tamiya in my stash, I do not know if I will put these AOA probes on this F-16B. I think I will keep these for another project, an Indonesian Viper. I did use the plastic pitot tube of the kit itself. I have to think about this ...
20 January 2019, 08:40
Patrick Hagelstein
For those AoA probes you could get away with snipping off the tips of some needles (wear safety glasses!!!) and install those. The pitot is a little bit harder because of the taper and thicker transition towards the radome but a needle wrapped in tape or electrical insulation could work here as well.
20 January 2019, 14:23
Jos Jansen
Thx Patrick, that with those needles is a good idea, I will try that! I leave the pitot tube for what it is, I have flattened the point a bit ... I am satisfied with this one.
21 January 2019, 10:30
Jos Jansen
Thx Hans 👍...I have a busy job as an active serviceman .... I build in phases, hopefully this weekend a varnish layer and start with the decalling...!
23 January 2019, 16:14
Patrick Hagelstein
What branch are you in?
23 January 2019, 16:25
Jos Jansen
Army, armoured infantry...but I love jets...😉
24 January 2019, 09:13
Patrick Hagelstein
Air Force, currently jets... but I love armoured vehicles! 🙂
24 January 2019, 13:30
Jos Jansen
Haha ... top 👍, we can still learn from each other when it comes to model building ...!
24 January 2019, 16:50
Patrick Hagelstein
We sure can and we sure should! 🙂
24 January 2019, 17:12
Erik Leijdens
Looks good Jos!
24 January 2019, 17:39
arne vd burg
Nice!
24 January 2019, 18:43
Maciej Bellos
Patrick and Jos, I envy you both! At least, at the city I work there is an airbace with a squadron of F-16s and some USAF presence with some drones (which are off limits of course).
24 January 2019, 18:51
Maciej Bellos
She is looking great!
25 January 2019, 22:01
Jos Jansen
@Patrick 👍 @Erik and Arne, thx guys! @Maciej, That is why Scalemates is a source of information and that we can exchange information and tips ... there are no country borders for model building 😉

Today started with the first decals, I am not completely satisfied with the varnish layer, it has become a bit lumpy. I sprayed Future on it in thin layers, but I did not get it nicely. What did I do wrong...?
25 January 2019, 22:07
Maciej Bellos
Some people just apply future with a brush! For example the silver surfaces of this P-47 have future on them. The guy is a hardcore paintbrusher.

modelclub.gr/forums/..74182.html#msg674182
25 January 2019, 22:11
Jos Jansen
Thx Maciej...Future is thin enough so that has to be done, but it should also be possible to get a tight coat of future with the airbrush? I do not know if I have to dilute it or the pressure in the compressor is too high or too low ... I have to do some tests this weekend.
25 January 2019, 22:24
Jos Jansen
Finally progress, I started with the decals ... then finish with Future. All parts are also ready, only a matter of assembly. I still have to do some things on the canopy with the airbrush, but otherwise everything goes according to schedule ... happy! 🙂
26 January 2019, 13:21
Rick Corts
Looks awersome!
26 January 2019, 17:12
Jos Jansen
@Hans...Yes, I'm going to emphasize the panel lines with a light wash. I am also going to subtly apply various oil leakages. This version of the J-259 was not quite as clean as it looks now.

@Rick...thx mate!
26 January 2019, 20:37
Jos Jansen
This Hasegawa kit has no "no step" lines decals, so you have to spray it yourself ... succeeded!
10 March 2019, 18:58
Erik Leijdens
Perfectly executed jos!!
10 March 2019, 19:19
Maciej Bellos
Top work in masking!
10 March 2019, 20:00
Jos Jansen
Thx guys for your kind words 🙂 ... I approach the end of the building, applying decals, a gloss layer, applying a wash and then a satin matt varnish ... happy!
10 March 2019, 21:00
Erik Leijdens
Looking forward to the end result Jos!
10 March 2019, 21:09
Jos Jansen
...me too 😉
10 March 2019, 21:17
John Lent
Very well done, Jos. Really like the use of the Frisian flag on the jet. Great job!
13 March 2019, 01:50
qill
Your F-16 looks like it going to look great! just a tip with block 1-10. The strengthening plates under the inlet nav lights are not present before block 15 🙂 recently had to remove them for my block 10 myself.
22 March 2019, 19:28
Jos Jansen
Well noted qill, I did some research ... at the time of this version of the J-259 block 1 (1989) there were indeed no reinforcement plates under the position lights at the inlet. That will be a bit of a job and again spraying things ... thanks mate 😉
22 March 2019, 23:22
Patrick Hagelstein
Learned something new here, thanks! 🙂
23 March 2019, 16:08
Holger Kranich

@John, do you have ties with Friesland? @Patrick, me too mate! @Holger and Clifford...soon more pics of the progress...👍
25 March 2019, 10:13
Holger Kranich
Now i saw the Frisian Flag! Thats cool, i am from Friesland!
25 March 2019, 10:41
Jos Jansen
Finished with the decals, varnish layer applied to protect the decals. I have ordered a metal pitot tube, AOA tubes and static discharges hopefully they will arrive by mail soon, then finish with a light panel wash ...!

Stephan Ryll
Looking very good Jos 👍
25 March 2019, 20:18
Bryn Crandell
Very nice looking Viper Chris.
25 March 2019, 20:49
Konrad -
A hell of a Viper 👍! Very nice!
25 March 2019, 21:47
Erik Leijdens
Beautiful work Jos! Did you order the metal pitot tube from Master? A very nice piece, but you'll have to remove a bit from the tip of the radome to get a snug fit. But you can handle that 🙂
26 March 2019, 07:17
John Lent
Jos - Hello! I lived in the Netherlands twice; Driebergen and Soest (1974-1977) and Bocholtz in Limburg Province (2002-2004). I consider the Netherlands my second home--wonderful people and a beautiful country. Congratulations on your F-16--very well done!
27 March 2019, 01:26
Patrick Hagelstein
No way John, I'm from Simpelveld! My dad is born in Bocholtz and most of my friends live there! 😄 This is so cool!!! 👍
27 March 2019, 04:32
Jos Jansen
@Erik, yes I ordered them from Master, beautifully molded! yes I know that the nose needs to be cosmetically treated just like the wing tips where the static discharges have to be placed. @John...thx mate, and you're more than welcome for the third time...😉
27 March 2019, 17:03
Jos Jansen
@Patrick...it's a small world after all...
27 March 2019, 17:04
John Lent
@ Patrick, wow--it is a small world. This is great! Lived at Banheiderweg 48; was assigned to RHQ AFNORTH at the time, and I was a member of the model club on the base. Had a friend who lived in Simpelveld when I went to High School in Brunssum. @ Jos...you lost me bud, but OK...
28 March 2019, 01:40
Patrick Hagelstein
Do you know Dr. Scheepers living a little further down that road towards Bocholtz? His daughter is married to one of my friends. My dad used to play soccer with Sportclub '25. I'm currently stationed at Tinker AFB, so we kind of switched places. 😄
28 March 2019, 01:49
Jos Jansen
@Patrick....AWACS?
28 March 2019, 13:32
John Lent
Patrick - Sounds like we did trade places. We didn't know Dr. Scheepers when we lived there. The Huppertz family was our landlord, and they were very nice people. Worked a lot with my Dutch colleagues--both Army and Air Force on the AFNORTH staff. When I was assigned there, the Balkans were winding down, and we were working to support the NATO mission in Afghanistan. I left a year early to take command of a unit in the States. Been retired from the Air Force going on 11 years, but I work civil service at Langley AFB. If your job takes you to Langley, let me know, would love to meet a fellow modeler and Airman.

Thank you guys (Murad, Hans, Neuling, Maciej and James), those are many nice words, but they are so greatly appreciated... there are some flaws here and there but I enjoyed the build and the positive feedback I get when posting the pics! 👍 🙂

Fantastic result of an early Viper Jos!! I like it very much. Great work 👍
5 May 2019, 16:36
Wim van der Luijt
Great stuff! I have the same decal sheet and your build is inspirational.....👍
5 May 2019, 17:49
Jos Jansen
Thx Erik and Wim....but Wim be aware that the decals of Dutch Decals were a lot thicker at the time. They were not easy to apply, liters of microsol hahaha 🙂....

Clifford Keesler
Most excellent job sir, well done.

Holy smokes that's a masterpiece. Absolutely love it!!!

I just realized that I think the two seater version of the F-16 looks nice. Usually, I don't like the look of two seater aircraft for one seater jets.
9 May 2019, 13:01
Bryn Crandell
Came out looking fabulous. Nice weathering. Well done Jos!
9 May 2019, 19:54
