It's already going wrong... there's some gaps/poor fit that shouldn't be there, I got glue on the inside of the front canopy piece, and I have absolutely no idea what i'm going to do about the rear canopy, it's open for the gun position, but then how do I airbrush without getting paint inside?

Try to get some foam, the stuff electronics get packed in. Cut to size (a bit oversized) and squeaze it in. If necessary the edges can be secured with regular masking tape.
See picture 31 in my build. Also in the rrar gunner position TBD Devastator WIP | Album by Mahoo76 (1:72)

Great idea Martin! I masked it off with Tamiya tape for my Helldiver ...

I was thinking maybe cotton wool? Since that would probably be easy to squish in and then pull out...

As long as it is dense enough to prevent paint leaking through and won't bleed paint, it should be good enough.

Yeah, I won't even know how bad it is until I have finished the model completely and remove the canopy masks...

Augie, I can't get a picture of the inside because the canopy is sealed.

It's temporarily on hold until the blue paint for the underside arrives, but here it is so far. I know the camo isn't the best, but this was the first time I tried a camo with air brush, so I hope it is ok.

Well, first airbrush camouflage! I have done a few with normal brush in the past. 🙂
Bank holiday stopped the post service on Monday, so my paint hasn't showed up yet. But hopefully tomorrow!
Once the blue is on, they'll be a couple more details and some cleaning up, then I can move on to clear coat and decals.

After many mishaps, blood, sweat, and tears
it is ready for clear coat.

That paintwork is very neat for someone who states that have just started out using an airbrush - fantastic work - may I ask how you did those panel lines?

I didn't do those panel lines... that's just what they look like. I think it's because of how thin the layers of Vallejo Air paint tend to be.

That escalated quickly (and nicely) 👍. Not my scale, but looks good. Will use the cockpit layout for my Shtormovik project in 72 (the PE instruction I have is hopeless). Good to see you didn't follow the popular myth of green-brown Soviet camo 🙂

Thank you! I do also make 1/72 scale aircraft, but usually it will be the modern aircraft I do in 1/72 scale.
I hope the cockpit is helpful! I'm not sure the colours are quite right but they seem close enough.
And what myth might that be?

The myth is, that the Soviets painted their planes green and brown on top (similar to early WW2 RAF aircraft). Even the serious books kept on repeating that myth well into the 1990s. Examples? Your Shtormovik's boxart, my Shtormovik's boxart 🙂, old La-5 by KP and so forth...
And the truth is: usually fighter were dark grey/ light grey and others (e.g. bombers) wore the camo you applied.
