René "Lord Bilbo" Bartholemy
After the premiere of Mozart's opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio or Harem), it is said that Emperor Joseph II told the composer something around these lines: "Too beautiful for our ears, my dear Mozart, and an awful lot of notes." To which Mozart replied: "Exactly as many as are necessary, Your Majesty."
Well: Too many details for my eyes, my dear Bughunter, and an awful lot of wires."
But then the answer would be: "Exactly as many as are necessary in creating a most splendidly stunning piece of art!"
Servus!

Thank you mates! On the final model not all details can be noticed, but for that there is the long gallery of the build process attached to the project, for future reference.

Absolutely spectacular! I have this kit in the stash, but after seeing your work, I think it's going to sit there a while longer 🙂

Thank you mates! Oh yes, that is still one of my master pieces.
Today I would not scratch the RAF wire terminals as we have now the beautiful resin ones made by Gaspatch. They were not available at that time and I used them a lot on my later builds of British birds.

I'm happy to announce another success with this model: Even though I had entered other models in the competition, this model received the best rating and got a Silver Model in Master category "1/48 and bigger - Multiplane (propeller) and external wire rigged airplanes".

Thank you very much mates!
@Peter Hardy That is an older model (but since I was the first time there I could enter every of my models) Today I would do some things differently, as there are now better accessories, or because one learned things in other projects. But one day you have to build a kit with the things available at that time and live with the result. Which is not bad in this case.
@Greg: The problem is the category 1:48 and bigger, so all the great 1:32 WingnutWing and Co models (that kits provide a fantastic base to start from) are in the same category! I must admit that my little models looks a bit lost between the big birds in the show reports. Those models are hard to beat.
I entered more models in this category, but not all are evaluated in detail, according to this principles: mosonshow.hu/wp-cont..ss-principles_EN.pdf
The five Gold winners were all 1:32, great kits from WingnutWing, Copper State Models and Aviattic.
No excuse, just a explanation.

Well deserved.

I think that models in Moson show are not judged by comparing to each other in the same category (like in Telford as an example) but each one separately against the set standards.
Of course bigger models are more impressive and make the casual viewer think that they required more work and higher levell of built quality, something which is not allways true. If judges are impressed by the size that has something to say about the quality of judging 🙂

As an aficionado of 1/144 scale, I cannot help but agree that bigger is rarely better... but it is different. Personally I am ALWAYS more impressed by a small model that transcends its scale and is hard to distinguish from the real thing. But then, I'm also a fan of older, less well-detailed models and seeing what can be done with them. Large models, with thousands of laser measured parts always seem like a test of will in assembly rather than a display of artisan craftsmanship... but that's probably also why I don't enter any modeling competitions. 🙂
