SCM Aggressor Group Build Fall 2019
As you can see the fit not the strongest part of this kit 😉
Last look before I close the cockpit
I had to add some lines as the underside was almost completely smooth
Losing the count... 8th time am I doing this? 10th?
As one of the original landing gear supoort parts became an offering to the carpet monster I had to scratchbuild it
Nose and exhausts painted, landing gear attached. And yes, I did it again! (broke missile rails)
I had to cut them in two pieces to avoid rippling.
As you see yellow on the Heller decals is way off the register, so I decided to try the Techmod numbers instead.
But they turned out not to be very user friendly 🙁
Macro is merciless 🙁
Reinforcement have arrived (kudos to Mr.Decal!)
Testing the AOA decals
The last stretch

Built this kit as a Swiss Airforce. Nice to see it in a three tone camo.

Yeah, not an Aegean Ghost, it was after all an E variant, we never had Es or Fs, just As and Bs, some even exotic like ex-Jordanians. Some day I will build one Aegean Ghost or Aegean Blue.

Started painting 2 days ago. The results can be seen on the last pic. 🙂
I have to spray the exhausts now and add the varnish afterwards. Stay tuned.

Thanks, it's my favourite agressor camo ever. When I saw this Heller's boxart I have got hooked immediately, even though it was ages ago.
Snapped elements are back, making some minor camo corrections.
And I have to rebuild the tip of the left missile rail, carpet monster took it.

I have to take a short break - I keep on breaking the damn missile rails all the time. My advice: mount the Sidewinders asap as possible. The ones in the kit were damaged, I'm going to use spare pair from the old Revell's F-16.
I also managed to lose one of the main landing gear support parts. Will come back to it in a couple of days.
And you can see I still manage to get a bit of orange peel even using lacquer paints...

Started experimenting with the Techmod yellow and black digits to avoid using original decal, where yellow is off register. But I failed miserably as the digits broke into pieces very quickly. Will have to correct the yellow part using a brush.

I hate to say this Łukasz, but I think you might have a wrong colour in there. The medium blue is actually a grey

Thanks for your feedback, but it's too late I'm afraid. So I will keep on saying that it's based on this reference: cybermodeler.com/air../f-5e_scheme16.shtml 😉
The Kfir (coming next) will be more greyish for sure.

Ahh I see where its come from, not 100% sure what scheme that reference is supposed to represent, but its not "Grape" that 35 wore.

Hmm, "Grape" you say? 🙂

Hang on, but the FS numbers are exactly the same 🙂
FS35414 (HTK-C150),
FS35109 (HTK-C156),
FS35164 (HTK-C027)
& FS35622 (HTK-C092)

35164 equates to humbrol 125 which is fairly close to how ScM represents the FS number
Not sure what went on but even on the hakata site the swatch is about right for what I have in my hand (humbrol 125) so unless there is something odd going on with lighting Its not a 3 tone blue scheme. Dunno what else to say

Well, I just assume the (in)famous Intermediate Blue is blue-gray and that's fair enough for me. Of course different manufacturers have slightly different shades, but I can live with it. I'll try to take pics of the finished build in the sunlight (fingers crossed there will be any) and we will see what the real shade is 🙂

@Augie: Added a pic taken during a partially sunny day, the Intermediate Blue looks different at every angle I have to admit😉
@Chris: The colours are what I like the most about this build. Tried to add the yellow band with a brush and failed. I'll have to order custom decals.
Or maybe someone has a spare couple of these numbers in 1/72 ???

Have you tried printing your own decals? It is actually not as tricky as you may think. You can buy white or transparent decal paper and you should be good with any decent inkjet printer. You need of course spray the printouts with liquid decal film first, or the printing will melt, but afterwards they behave just like any other kit decal. Decal solutions, such as Mr Setter or Mr Softer work too. I used them in some of my previous builds, and even though they are not exactly Cartograph territory, I cannot really see much difference from regular Italeri kind of kit decals.

It sounds perfectly fine, but I miss a prerequisite - the printer 🙂
I'm considering ordering custom ones as a part of bigger order that's currently in progress. Let's see whether Maciej can find the decals 🙂

Completed today, enjoy. I managed to get it exactly as I wanted, but I won't recommend Heller's sprues to anyone 🙂
Took pics in different light today, so you can see the difference 🙂

Pic #35 is my favourite! A crude kit in a master's hands can become a jewel. Great result Łukasz!

Wow, that paintjob turned out really nice! And the hangar backdrop in the afternoon sun is still as lovely as ever before.

Nice finish, Lukasz. I'd recommend a HobbyBoss for 4,75 Euro, far better details, just somehow huuge panel lines.

Thank you guys 🙂
@Sergej: For sure the next Tiger (if ever) will be either HB (ah that damn too short windscreen!) or Italeri. At least when it comes to E version. But the Heller's boxarts have too much sex-appeal and I just had to build this one 🙂
@Laurent: I knew you're gonna like it 🙂
