Thanks Lode & Rui 🙂
I'll create even more room once I dispose of older and uglier builds like the Mirage III

Nice collection !!
For airplanes, is the 1:48 scale the best match for the 1:35 tank? what do you think ? (after the tanks, I go to the mythical planes of the ww2)

Hehe, thanks Yves & Guy 😉
@ Yves - Yes, 1:48 scale aircraft don't match up with the 1:35 scale armour.... 1:32 scale aircraft would be a better match, but I cant afford those... let alone have the space to display them. The 1:48 Canberra won't fit in the cabinets unfortunately.
@ Guy - Cheers mate 😉👍

ok I understand, it's true that the 1:32 would be the best compromise but you need space ... and it may be expensive if you want to make several ...
Thank you for your opinion, it's cool ?

James. Have you worked out how to keep the dust out of them > ? A whole series of images of your collection is something I would love to see. 🙂 🙂

Thanks Kerry. The cabinets do a pretty good job of keeping the dust away, but still need to give them a gentle brush once every 12 months or so 😉

Sorry Spanjaard, I missed your reply... Cheers mate 🙂
@ Kerry, without pulling them all out again probably the best way to view them is via my Albums page. (Click the "Jim C" link)
Note that the further back you go in time the lower the finished quality becomes. I'm most happy with the builds from 2019 & 2020 etc so some of my really early builds will get revisited as I have a better understanding of what I'm doing now.
Still always plenty of room for improvement though aye 😉
I still need to photograph the A20, Meteor's and Mosquito's properly, but the other aircraft are all pretty rough so I wont bother with them.

Thanks guys 🙂
The older and uglier builds are just place holders at present... so I will replace/re-do them in time.

As we all do with those models that have 'had their day'. 🙂 Yet strangely enough, mine never see the bin outside, but rather get put into a box marked. "One day I will..............................................." hahahahahaha 🙂 🙂 🙂 👍

@ Kerry - Heh, In my youth I'd probably have set fire to them in the back yard or targeted them with the air rifle etc... but, nowadays I suspect I will do the same as you lol 😉👍

Given that there are so many products available for us to strip old paint and chrome, I have saved so many from the bottle of metho and a box of matches. hehehehehe🙂
Only to see most of the old kits re released !!!
I have become very selective as to what I keep and pension off. The choices available to us these days are so good and varied these days. 👍

@ air rifle - I recall sinking a Heller Bismarck with some friends in a small lake in my youth after it got damaged 😄
@ collection & presentation - wow, quite a lot in there, happy to have seen some of them getting built here! Will slowly have to think about a solution for myself, open display has its issues 🙂 But in-flight 48-scales are quite a lot to accommodate...

Slavo, and all my mates here. IKEA do have other display cases other than the 6 foot high 4 shelf units, but also there are the display case manufacturers or shop fitters that will occasionally have a 'sale' of display cases retrieved from time to time, something I must do again soon as the completed kits I will have soon will need a place to stay. 😉

now i only need to build models to show there....

Thanks Slavo - As prev mentioned, there's a fair few builds in there from when I first started back in the hobby a few years ago that are just place holders at present as I intend to redo them. Mirage III, Spitfire & 109 (not to mention that bloody MiG-21 as welll!!) etc.
I need to reshoot the A20, F-15 and Mosquito's and probably will when Summer returns to these shores.
The display cases (purchased locally here in NZ) were quite inexpensive at the time and can be modified to add additional shelves, spaced as required as they just slide up and down the metal shafts in each corner, and rest on rubber support anchors.
Hardest part is getting them all level! Unfortunately, the price of these units has gone up quite a bit... but I'm quickly running out of space. I'm finding that the 1/48 scale aircraft (especially more modern types) take up much more room than I had anticipated, with being only able to fit 2 or 3 aircraft per shelf. If I could sort out something to make "plinths" of varying height for them to sit on, I could probably squeeze 1 or 2 more in per shelf. Might have to bite the bullet and get a couple more soonish though.

you can kind of "duplicate" the space if you make a few "in flight" planes. you can hang them with very thin (and very strong) fishing line from the shelf above. i do nto mean using tape or anything. you pass a line around the shelf, and hang the plane from there.

I think the shelves are probably spaced a little too close together to do that, but thanks for the suggestion 👍

I haven't updated this album since the beginning of the year and I'd completely forgotten about it until now. Therse's been quite a few additions made throughout the year and will update it once I'm done with my current project 😉

James, your cabinet of your achievements is so nice te view. One can look, and look back,…And beautiful projects they are. I'm following you now for some years, and it is always a pleasure to see those nice builds and subtle weathering every time. it impresses me and continue to impress me every time I take a peak

Many thanks Alex & Lode 🙂
@ Lode - I don't know what to say mate... coming from such a talented modeler as yourself... I'm speechless! 😳 I've been building more aircraft this year (as well as tanks) but next year, I hope to have a crack at a submarine or two, and maybe even a ship for shits in giggles.
I know who to turn to for advice when the time comes for that though 😉👍

I was re-arranging a couple shelves/models, then decided to take a couple quick shots of the new additions as I'd been meaning to do an update for a while now but never did get around to it.

James, isn't it always the way. ! I am sure that like you, I have spent more on my display cases than I have on models. ! But that is about to change.
Helicopters with removable blades. !! 🙂 👍

Fortunately the majority of my kits have been given to me by family members for assorted birthday and Xmas gifts over the years, but yeah the cases are not cheap either!
While the display cases do a good job of keeping the dust at bay, my one issue with them is that I regret purchasing cases with hinged doors.
If I were to give one piece of advice for anyone considering getting display cases, it would be to get some with sliding glass doors so as to minimize the gaps through which the dust can enter! 😉
