"DONE" - Grunau SG 38 Glider
Clearning up the spures and making the seperated parts ready for paint job.
Was not sure how to pronounce the spars under the linen of the Wings. I masked them to give the wing sureface the needed "depth".
More masking
Some very light layers of "linen"-like colour applied....
Working on the wood appearance of the remaining visible wood of the framework. I used wood decals for the first time on leading edge and "fuselage".
Paint work on the Vertical Tail Fin. Parts of a Grunau 9 at the bottom of the picture.
The model I decided to build show the austrian colours at the tail.....
Now I need to finalize with some touch ups and clear coat before move on with assembly and rigging.
Used some spare PE sheet to cut fittings for the rudders.
Ellbow fitting on the elevator installed.
Wire and fitting for the aileron installed.
Meanwhile I have installed the elevator and started to installed the steering wires.
For the steering of the ailerons some guiding ducts for the wires are installed near to the center of the wings. I simulated those with some PE from spare box.
Glueing the Wings.....
...and let it rest to make sure everything remain in place and aligned.
Well....
...almost there - rigging of wings will be next.
Here I have already installed the strings for moving the ailerons.
Started to install the wing rigging wires....
....and it all came together nicely. I am happy that on this one there....
...were no issues during installation of wires.
Finshed !!
Tiny, little glider.
AFT Infra-red sensor box and Flare dispenser added.
.....and opened up.
The right hand intake looks different than the left hand intake on all the pictures I have studied of Austrian Blackhawks. I am not an expert to understand why there are covers attached and why they are different on each side - but I added them with help of thin styrene sheet. Also I have added square mesh circles from an spare PE set into the opening in front of the intake position - as seen on the original choppers too.

Thx for your likes gents....not too much parts with that kit but it is a rather time consuming painting and decaling job.

Thx lukasz & Robert. this one as 8 part numbers and seems to be a quick build - but as most of the time: the devil is in the details. The rigging seems to be quite challenging....

I recently built this glider in a 1:48 scale. That's why I know how small and subtle the model is. There are a lot of ropes on this glider. I wish you a firm hand and a lot of patience in its production.

Very nice these classic gliders !! Any plans to put a pilot figure in?
Flying something like this probably feels like hanging on to a big kite, very adventurous....

Wow, it's smaller than I thought! The rigging is superbly done. Excellent!

schöner Schädelspalter! Nice skull splitter, as this plane was called. I like your rendition of the fabric. I will keep it in my mind for the time I build mine.
