Churchill AVRE T69114/B “Minotaur”
The real tank this is a model of, photographed in 1947. Real-world location: what3words.com/refusal.patted.acid
Holes drilled in side plates for rods that carried spare track links.
Assembled sponsons.
Hull side.
Turret with partial interior so there’s something to see through the open commander’s hatch.
Engine deck with replacement stays for hatches, because the plastic parts are very hard to clean up.
Plastic card lip on hull, because rear mudguard was missing on the real tank.
Hull rear with scratchbuilt empty smoke dischargers.
Model primed white.
Model painted SCC 2 brown overall.
Stencil applied to box on turret stowage bin for the vehicle’s number. Stencil was made by removing perspective from a real photo in Photoshop, printing it out and cutting out the numbers.
Turret with spare track links and strips that hold them in place, still unpainted.
Markings applied.
Markings on rear, including turret number after stencil was removed.
Track was not assembled to complete length, but only as long as needed outside the mudguards. Sewing thread pulls the ends tight …
… and the thread disappears under the mudguard. Same method was used on the other side.
Completed model from right front. Little girl is from MK35, with re-sculpted hair because Princess Leia wouldn’t have been standing on this tank ca. 1947.
Completed model from right rear.
Completed model from right.

The tank still needs to have the actual name applied, by the way. I had no good way to do that when I built the model, but Black Lion Decals has since released a set that includes it. All I need to do is apply it someday 🙂

You'll probably find another of my upcoming models even more disconcerting, then — it'll have a cat on the tank 🙂

Felis catus, I think you mean 🙂 But yes, that variety. Now to go and finish that model …
