Album info
Such a shame that this prototype fighter never went into production. I followed the ATF competition with a lot of interest. The ATF competition was well documented and reported by a number of print media sources such as Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Newsweek, etc. These magazines offered for a great deal of detailed photographs of the YF-23 and the YF-22. (For the younger builders: During the mid 1990s the internet was not really an option for research, as it barely existed.) I built this kit in the mid 1990s and it as faired pretty well. Just finished another move and unpacking revealed a broken front gear wheel. A bit of super glue and all good. Built straight from the box and painted with Testors Acryls by brush. Used a mechanical pencil to mark the few given panel line details.
