Skyraider&Skyray&Skyhawk WIP
Skyraider - cockpit
Skyray - cockpit
Skyray - cockpit
Skyray - I didn't fold wings and was not able to have perfect fit. Lot of filler was needed.
Both planes are in similar status, before or with surfacer. It will need some corrections and gentle sanding to finalize the surface before painting.
Seat for Skyhawk
Skyhawk cockpit
All three are close to painting, just surfacer needed for Skyhawk, Skyray has it but I do not have a photo.
Skyhawk - inner cabin colour painted and surfacer to follow
I’ve started preshading on Skyraider with NATO black from Tamyia but I need to practice more and fine tune paint consistency and pressure on airbrush to be satisfactory.
Skyray - rescribing went quite ok with it but need a bit of correction where the slats are
Skyray - filling and describing went pretty good on this wing, gentle sanding needed and I can start with painting

Skyraider - I’ve finally found some time to finish base painting of gray colour.

Little progress with black painting.
Little progress with black painting.
Some more masking of details.
Some more painting of the details on Skyraider.
The same on Skyray.
Red intakes will need smaller correction.
Need to move also on small pieces which are a lot of them.
Little progress on walking area.
I think final look is good. Little correction is needed on left side but nothing big.
Red colour details will look good on grey-white plain.
Lot of masking, it is not perfect but I am fine with it.
Lot of small pieces.
Small progress on Skyraider, I tried new oil paints from Abteilung on exhausts. Not perfect, but I am fine with it.
Skyraider - fit of cowling and exhausts were with no issue. Now, it looks like Skyraider and I like it so much.
Skyraider- I am glad I haven’t spent more time with exhausts as they are not seem much.
Skyray - lot of masking for small details
Skyray - result is good. I have also painted black round cover which is not in manual from Tamiya but I can see it on photos.
Skyhawk - white colour airbrushed on bottom…
Skyhawk - …and on top control surfaces
Skyhawk - small parts in colour as well
Skyhawk - top colour on its place. Details on radom, intakes and tail are next

I decided to tune original pylons for 1000lbs bomb for Skyraider. This was a starting point.
At first, I removed some material.
I glued more detailed parts from scrapyard and I tuned it with drill bits. Final step is to add wires and paint it again.
Skyraider - I fine tuned openings in pylons and add wire.
Skyhawk - lot of masking and yellow colour on tail
Red on tail
Other side
Skyhawk - FODs before paintin
Skyhawk - correction of red on air intakes

I’ve started with decals on Skyhawk and it looks quite ok, they react pretty nicely with Hypersol from Agama.
Decals done
Wash with black Panel Liner from Tamiya.
I left some residuals of wash on bottom side representing some dirt.
Wash in main wheel wells.
And front one.
I’ve finished wash of bottom side today evening. I used Abteilung oil colors for the 1st time and I am quite happy about the result. I could just use lighter grey.
Wash on top side finalized, still learning how to work with oil colours but I’m gonna manage it?
Skyhawk is finished after 4 years since I started the built. It is not perfect, it has many mistakes but I am happy I finally finished something?
Masks on
I used masks for the first time and I am really satisfied with the result. Big thanks to OMASK company.
All decals are applied, they just need a bit of Hypersolu care to fine tune them in lines.
Wash is done.
Wash is done.
Wash is done.
Skyraider with all marking painted with masks and also after couple decals.
Skyraider has top surface in wash. I used oil colours from Abteilung, mix of Neutral grey and black. I am quite happy about the result, especially that wash staid in panel lines where decals are applied.
Today, I managed also wash on bottom surface of Skyraider. I just realised that I used Dark grey wash from Tamiya in wheel shafts and it is too light. I must tuned it a bit.
I have started with final weathering for Skyray using Abteilung oil paints and Olbrusher from MiG.
Today, I finalized the upper surface weathering, I am quite happy about the result. Now, I will apply semigloss varnish on top and will continue with weathering of bottom surface which was quite dirty on this plane.
I continued with weathering of bottom surface today.
Weathering follow up on bottom.
Skyray is almost ready, just cannon barrels are missing.
Finally managed to start with weathering of Skyraider today.
I’ve finished weathering on top side.
Bottom side also done.
This is my last post in this album, I am almost finished with Skyraider. Small things are left such as position lights etc. Once it is completed I will post better pictures in separate album.

Douglas made some cool aircraft back in the 50s. Nice work on all 3 planes.
I finished a Tamiya Skyray last year and it is a great kit.

Hey John, thank you and you are right, I have also Skywarrior from Czech
Model in my stash and it is nice/ugly plane😁. Tamyia kit, older but still pretty decent kit. I decided to unfold the wings and wasn't able to fit the wings w/o filler. Otherwise it is smooth built.

Hi Dave, I am not so skilled in final weathering, so it is going to be a little bit gamble😁 I will go for slight weathering as this particular machine seemed not so dirty from the photos.
