"Matchbox group build" Monty's Caravan
My new restructured, organized and cleaned up workspace! Looks somehow like the old, but it is really clean and spacy now and much better stored! I'm free to work again!!! 😉
The subject
and it's contents. Let's get to work!
First damage done. That was quick!
For the second one I used a cork to have it flat but soft. Worked very well.
And already repaired. Next up some frameworks
Chassis is ready
Now it is getting tricky. Because I want to paint it from the inside and install windows, I'll try the technique that Roland Sachsenhofer used for his FAMO-kit. Pre-painting and weathering on the sprue and pray for not having a glue accident.
Base is ready to paint
Because of the open windows I try to remove the ejector marks.
This is the tool
and this is the brush, it got plastic bristles. Very low frequency!!!
We've been on a wedding this weekend so not much progress so far. Ejector marks removed.
Not so easy painting on the Sprue. So much thinking! 🤔 😉
Preparing small parts before painting
Standing there and waiting for a brush of air.
Airbrush plan ready
Now preparing small parts, after that I finally can start to brush!
Ready for paint-off!
Primed prepped and ready for a more colorful life!
Chiefs ready for their theatre. Already lookin' for someone to boss around.
Base paint is on!
AB job almost done
And not without accident. I still hate those revell colours. Lousiest I've ever seen! 😛
Only one colour to spray for the base left
Now ready! (with AB of course) weathering and detailing will of course follow!
Test subject for weathering the canape.
Damn' new job. Sucking up all my modeling time. At least I managed to shovel some free time on the holiday today! Sadly not more result than this.
At least I managed to paint some brickwork!
Stone is ready. Next earth and then as last the wood. Definetly not today because...
...my chair has a hanger! Gotta go and fetch a new one later.
Earth painted and the two wood elements primed. Tomorrow starts weathering! And all thanks to the new...
..."b..tholder"! 😉
Painted the basic wood color. Tomorrow washing and drypainting in different layers and colortones.
Interior parts
And the floor
Started weathering the wooden parts. Still one layer of drypainting, one wash and another drypaint-layer to go. Tomorrow!
Layers of layers on filters, washes, filterwashes and drypainting. Still many more to go! It will take me a couple of days.
Wodden parts done by now!
Beware when you mix your own colors!!! Are they the same?
No they ain't! One is for tankchains, the other one is german Panzergrau prepped and thinned for airbrushing. I used the first one for drypainting the road first and wondered about the metallic glare as it suddenly came over me...
Here you can see in the left corner how I saved it a little bit.
New maps for the table
As far as it is, not quite but almost ready
Base is ready so far. Arrangements are not final until the vehics are ready!
I had the idea to scratch the red bricks a little bit with the blade, to give them sharper and more realistic edges. Just a bit too late. I would have no fun in painting them again! 😄
Three peanutbutter jelly "Quarkstriezel" and then some scalemodelling in the morning. Nice way to start the day! Still have to work late shift soon.
Started painting some detail. Still so much to do left.
Evidence of termination! 😄
Did some nature to the plate and lots of minor detail for the vehic's. Still way to go!
Some green
Some dirt
I`ve put some detail on the table so the maps won`t be blown away. Still busy detailing the vehcle parts on the sprue.
By the way: looks like "snakes on a plan"!
By the way: looks like "snakes on a plan"!
Somewhen I should stop detailing the base and finally finish the vehicles! 😄
Vehicle parts almost ready for construction
Just slight details like the scales for the tachometer
only the canvas has to be drypainted in a lighter green tone
and at last airbrush and drypaint the wheels
some of the canape parts
Still detailing to death
Cockpit is as far as it is.
Dryfit of the canvas
Something of a progress. First dryfits
And by the way, I don't get anything from anyone for placing products! 😄
Masking tyres the hard way! (see next pic)
I've gotta look for some buy options next time!!!
Dryfitting..
And still "dryfitting"! 🤔
I still don't know how to handle the door when I let the roof to be retractable. I have to glue it in position but then it is fixed and you can't open it, what will be also a cool feature.
Still detailing
More progress. Slow but steady!
Wife didn't like my door! 🙁 She said the handles were too long! 🤔 Man she was right! 😭 😄 😛
Time to get the caravan ready. Monty is getting a little impatient right now! 😉
Sorry guys for not posting for such a long time. Several minor health issues kept me from the table for so long. Out of the build, little problems, big frustrations... yada yada yada. The usual chain reaction. Finally I am at a point where I say enough is enough. Far from ready but enough effort put into it to get a place on the shelf.
And now with decals!

Hi Lukasz, nice to hear from you. I'm trying to get daily updates. Yesterday I forgot to upload the pics so I did it this morning. Hope everything is alright in your area, in times where grown up 50+ people play mightgames at the cost of peoples lifes.

Luckily I'm not so close (the local ones play only with our wallets so far), hence I can follow your build 🙂

Same here with the wallets! 😉 You're right lucky us to still do what we always do.

Nice new workspace Ralf. I'm in of course. I'm hoping to find one of these soon at a sensible price. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

Never thought of using the plastic Dremel brush to remove the pin marks, thx! 👍

Normally I would use the blade, but under the circumstance that i paint on the sprue I was afraid I'd break out the parts. That's the reason for the plastic brush. Took some funny experiments to find out how. 😉

Hate it when work gets in the way. It's killing my modeling time right now.

You say it Kyle. I'm restructuring my complete daily time plan to shovel free some spare time for the hobby. Wish you all the time in the world and everybody else too of course! 👍

I'm interested in this build. I saw Monty's caravans at Duxford last month.
Nice work with painting the figures.

Thanks guys. I so much appreciate your comments. After the vehicle parts got some washing now they will get drypainted and then just build them together. Maybe at the end of the week or at the start of the next I could be ready.

Thanks Simon. I had some rough days with a lot of work and little to no time for modelling. So I used the weekend to get some progress.

Great woodwork Ralf. Shame to cover it all up inside - maybe you can leave the roof unglued?

I really think about the retractable roof and I have some ideas but it will get complicated if possible because of the sunshield on the backside.

Most impressive! The wood effect looks most convincing, and the base will be a real gem with your additions!
