4H-Inspiration: Gulf War (1990-91)
This collection features select Coalition aircraft that participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm that I did not have the opportunity to work with during my active-duty service with the US Air Force. Although I did not experience these aircraft in person, they inspired me throughout my career. These aircraft, along with those that did work with, demonstrated the value of superior airpower in combat.
GULF COOPERATION COUNCIL AIRCRAFT
The following aircraft represent the air forces of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. Without the intervention of the United States and other allied nations, this small force of mostly aircraft would have likely been outclassed by the more modern Iraqi Air Force.

- Hawk Mk.64 (Free Kuwait Air Force)
- Mirage F.1CK (Free Kuwait Air Force)
- F-5E (RSAF)
- Tornado IDS (RSAF)

- F-16C Block 40 Fighting Falcon (Bahrain Amiri Air Force)
- Alpha Jet E (Qatar Emiri Air Force)
- Mirage F.1EDA (Qatar Emiri Air Force)
- Mirage 2000 (UAE Air Force)
- Hunter FGA.73 (RAFO)
- Jaguar B (RAFO)
DESERT SHIELD AIRCRAFT
The following NATO aircraft were deployed in Turkey and Cyprus in support of Operation Desert Shield and to demonstrate to Iraq that NATO would defend member nations. Perhaps the message was received, as the forces did not enter combat.
- Alpha Jet A (German Air Force / NATO ACE)
- Mirage 5BA (Belgian Air Force / NATO ACE)
• F-104S Starfighter (Italian Air Force / NATO ACE)
* Phantom FGR.2 (RAF)
DESERT STORM AIRCRAFT
The following United States and Allied aircraft executed strike missions in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.
