This was bought from our local car boot sale (flea market) - I don't normally build ship models but couldn't resist it as it only cost 10 GBP (11.7 Euros!). Unfortunately the hull has some damage, also cracks on the deck and part of the superstructure is broken. However, most of the sprues are still bagged so I'm hoping all the parts are in the box.

Yamato is progressing well. Tamiya IJN Kure grey is now sprayed, I used a single coat on top of Halford's grey primer - great stuff and relatively cheap. I hope to paint the red hull soon but I need to glue the rudders on first.

I've bought a 'Hunter' wooden deck set off Ebay, not opened it yet so I don't know if it's self adhesive, or how easy it will be to fit. It does include a chain and some PE, all for 15 GBP including postage from China - hopefully it will look good when fitted.

This is it:

The hull is now painted red and I've been working on the wooden deck. Unfortunately, the veneer deck is not sticking well to the matt painted deck - I should have glossed the painted plastic first. I've lifted the veneer and given the deck a coat of 'Future' polish and re-attached the deck. I've then put a coat of 'Future' floor polish on the deck. There are still some signs of lifting so I'll re-check in the morning before deciding what to do next - it may require some contact adhesive. It's a shame as the wooden deck is a perfect fit and looks great but could have been a bit stickier.

mmhh I missed that so far. Interesting story about that model, heavy cracking on the plastic parts but a very good repair job. She comes out very nice Barry! Cheers, Christian

Thanks Christian. I'm hoping I can get the wooden deck glued down - I haven't used a wood deck before so it is a steep learning curve for me.

Hi Barry, very nice progress on your Yamato. I also like you saved her from the scrap yard😢

Thanks! It's good to be able save her, I'm enjoying building my first 1:350 ship and it's a good one to start with - it makes a change from tanks!

I now have the Trumpeter HMS Belfast in my stash although I do need to finish the Centauro tank destroyer that I started last year before I begin building Belfast!
