Plan to make a tribute diorama that will include main vehicles used by my grandfather’s unit the 10th Royal Hussars, 2nd Armoured Brigade, 1st Armoured Division in North Africa. Particularly at the 2nd Battle of El Alamein.
Hope to include both types of tank he worked with. The Crusader MK III and Sherman MK II. Also need to find out what other British vehicles were used but may widen it so it’s not limited to that one particular battle. That way I could include my Grant MK II, Universal Carrier, Stuart ‘Honey’ MK I, Valentine, Matilda and the M7 Priest.
Though it may well end up being a case of “we’re gonna need a bigger house” to put the thing in!!
Hope to find a way to add his cap badges. 2 x ‘XRH’ metal pins, 1 x ‘10th Royal Hussars’ with POW feathers and a badge showing a WW1 Male tank and the immortal words ‘Fear Naught’. Plus his North Africa and Italy campaign medals with ribbons.
I feel a little ashamed that it’s taken me until I’m 56 years old to do this but I am new to modelling. Don’t suppose it would’ve worked in papier mache!!?
