A nostalgic blast from the past the venerable Monogram’s 1969 1/48 P-39 Airacobra. I remember this wonder-kit with its open-door cockpit, engine, and fuselage guns details. In the age before aftermarket goodies this kit at $1.50 had it all. True, it also had raised panel lines, but back then that was the norm. At 14 years of age, it was the favorite of this modeler. Now at a much more mature age, I found a kit on eBay (at a much higher price than originally released) and decided to use techniques and materials I’ve never tried before and rediscovered the joy of building just for my own enjoyment and experimentation. Here’s the result of my first attempt to paint and weather a model in the Spanish School style. OOB except for after-market decals to replace the unusable aged, yellowed, and cracked kit decals. Products used Stynylrez primer, Lifecolor acrylic paint, Ammo Mig and AK weathering products, and Eagle Strike Productions decals IP4801.
