In the early 1930s, the Royal Norwegian Army Air Service (RNAAS) started using the Tiger Moth. In 1934, the Navy Air Service (RNNAS) borrowed one DH 82 (159) to assess its usability as a trainer with floats. The plane was flown with floats for 21 hours 40 minutes, but in the end, the RNNAS decided not to use the DH 82 as a trainer.
In early May 1934, the plane was delivered back to the Army airbase at Kjeller. As the adjacent river had caused heavy flooding of the airbase, the plane was returned with floats attached. It landed on the river and was moored at the workshop building.
