Handing over command of 303 to Sqn Ldr Bienkowski, Zumbach spent a year as a Staff Officer before returning as Wing Commander of 2nd Polish Air Wing, no. 133 Wing. Flying Mustang III serial 'JZ' HB868, scoring his last probable victory of the war over an FW-190.
