Very interesting, but the S2 is this scale must be tiny! I will be watching for sure!

Great job so far, Peter!
Watching with great interest. I have the Rothmans and Canadian Reds kits in my stash, too. I built the kit many years ago, and remember that the decals aren't opaque enough.
I remember as a kid, seeing the Canadians Reds (and later known as the Rayban Reds)at a couple Airshows in my home province of Alberta.

@Gordon - You are right, I still remember the decals, but.....at the moment I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will at least work and not disintegrate, haha
Thanks for your mental support so far, mates! 🙂

The decades-old decals are doing surprisingly well! They need an awful long time to soak and even then won't get off from the paper on their own, but otherwise they don't mind being pulled off by tweezer! Lucky me! 🙂

Looks great, Peter! What paints did you use for the red and white? Did you use a primer?

Thanks Dave. It truly is a wonderful and well thought out kit. Some parts are a bit fiddly, but I'm so glad I decided to grab it on a whim at my local hobby shop.

Just a note, Vallejo pastel blue is a very good match for the KA-27 interior after researching the real cockpit and experimenting with many grey blue colors from Vallejo. I would recommend Vallejo 70.901. This picture was taken to show the color on the cockpit floor. I am still waiting for the aftermarket cockpit seats before I go any further in my build.

Brilliant 👍👍 l like Velejo paints, l purchased the big main colours box and can mix almost any colour out of them.
The white and yellow is only letdown as very low in pigment!!
I purchase AK Intense white and yellow and they .. knock it out the park.. Brilliant.
I'm building a HB at min and it's not giving me accurate paint colours! Also some areas n parts no paint colour mentioned! Good old internet to the rescue.
Good luck with it..nice project 👍👍

Yeah thats the one thing I dislike about the Chinese kits, very little paint callouts and no data on the units in the decal options offered. You really have to dig real data to find out and while it can be fun and a learning lesson. I bet a lot of modelers find it annoying. These companies need to do better for the price of kits these days.

Work on the T-34-85 continues. Another first for me is pre shading an AFV, having tried it a couple of times on aircraft with limited success. Also tried post shading for the first time on this one too.

Dammit! Why did I never think of using a rubber band to hold the tracks in place while the cement set?

That is very nice. It's good to see an unusual subject like this. I think I had a Matchbox car very similar to that.

@George, thanks! Concept car from the late 60s. Always been one of my favorite concepts.
@David, I know Hot Wheels did a version in 1970 and Matchbox did one in 1971. Pretty sure I had the Matchbox version as well at some point.

So cool to see this one build! Great! I love those old prototypes and how they saw the sports car for the future.

@Alexander, I have been buying the SMP24 kits for about 4 years now. It was not easy to find or purchase them in the beginning but I have been a pretty consistant purchaser since. I am not sure how many actually get out of Japan or Asia for that matter. Definately not easy or inexspensive to obtain.
@Christian, thanks! I am also a big fan of this era of prototypes, most concepts from the 70s though the 90s I felt really captured what it meant to create really wild and intersting concepts.

So I just finished this little Italian job. The decals came out with a lot of the edges showing, which then got a lot worse when I added some washes. I used Microset on the decals, and then sealed them with Tamiya semi-gloss before the washes, but it actually looks like the washes got under the decals. Any thoughts?

It looks like you haven't spray gloss coat before you applied decals. Or decals didn't set well. There are two solutions. One is lacquer thinner. Put the thinner with fine brush in dots over the place where you have silvering. Thinner should destroy the film. If it raises paint under, just leave it, it will settle back. Important thing here is that, once you applied thinner, you shouldn't touch decal for something like 20 minutes, at least. Second way is mix of sugar and water, half - half. You make a hole with a needle on the decal, than you put mix on the top. It should enter in the space between decal and paint and, when drayed, make a gloss film in between them which will act as a gloss under the decal. Wipe excess mix with wet cloath and you are done.

How annoying. I've never heard of the sugar water trick from Bogicevic. I'll be interested if this works. If the thinner, sugar trick fails, what else can you do but use a scalpel to cut around them, since you've sealed it,

Ok. There are few small tings I should add then. Heat the water first, when hot it will disolve sugar beter and apply it while it's still warm, it will have more viscosity. Make small hole or slice with modeling knife, put few drops of mix on the top and let it dry. You will see emidiatly if it's penatrating. When dry, wipe carefully excess mix with moist cloth. Repeat where neaded. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me many times.

Thanks Bogicevic! I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'll try the lacquer thinner technique. I love this site!

Thanks Mark! So I punched some holes in the decals and applied the warm sugar water, but unfortunately it did not seem to make a noticeable difference. I decided my best shot was to just grab the scalpel and remove the decals, which was very easy. Bogicevic said the solution would get under the decals! I have successfully applied new decals, and my little Italian job is now base-worthy. New pics to come.

Well, you find a solution, which is the most important thing. I can not know why something that worked for me many times does not work for you in this case. Maybe that what I think is silvering is residual glue from decal paper. Who knows... Anyway, good luck with your project.

All's well that ends well. 👍 Mango, your builds have me hankering to do some armor but I still have commitments to do a couple more a/c. When I do get a chance, part of me wants to start small with a Pz IV, but another part says go for broke and do a Maus!
