Taming a wildcat

Album image #1
Let's try and paint cockpit pieces before assembling. MRP-131 interior green.

Album image #2
Cockpit is compete, here a view of the seat

Album image #3
And a view of the instrument panel

Album image #4
This model is a pleasure to build. Even though the landing gear was tricky to put together, it all matches perfectly, just follow the manual. Only problem so far was a grid in the lower front part of the cockpit, which had to be shrank or the body wouldn't fit together.

Album image #5
Engine construction is complete.

Album image #6
Painted and after a wash

Album image #7
Pieces start to come together. Most preshading is now done, might do a bit more in more brown shades before putting real colours on.

Album image #8
Paint is on, more than a few spots left to fix.

Album image #9
Painting is complete, coming up next are the decals.

Album image #10
Decals are on. The insignia on the side didn't work on the first try, had to replace them. Luckily there were extras of almost exact same size.

Album image #11
A nice cozy oil bath.

Album image #12
And the oil wash on the upper side is there.

Album image #13
Oils completing the picture on the lower side.

Album image #14
Finished! Will take some time until I can take final photos.

Let's try to build something relaxing - heard this wildcat goes together very well and it's only 3 sprues and a few large pieces. PE, which I don't enjoy, are included, but I'll be careful with choosing what to use.

Thank you Marcel. This kit goes together so well, I haven't used any putty yet, just a bit of surfacer and melted sprue to fill in a small gap.

Aaand just lost the wing light clear piece to the carpet monster. I guess every model needs some mishap.

Nice job indeed! The carpet monster is forever hungry though...

I have a question. I've noticed when doing aircraft, some people prime in black and then lighten the panels, then put the main paint over top. Others will prime a light coat and then blacken the panel lines before applying the paint job. I'm not sure which is better? Any suggestions?

Hi Vishnu. This is the first model in a long time, where I didn't use any primer. The light paint is directly on the plastic. On previous models, I used dark paint when I had a light primer or light color when I had dark primer 🙂 . I now have a quite large stash of black Mr surfacer 1500 cans, which are IMHO excellent and thus will use light paint over it to lighten panels.
This one is an experiment to see how the model looks without primer, as I expect details to be a bit more pronounced.

This was a fun build. The first propeller plane I did in more than 20 years. The kit quality is incredible. I did not enjoy the antenna wires though 🙂

Thank you, Neil and Jennifer - can only recommend this one, if you are into WW2 machines - and based on your albums, you are 🙂 . Beautiful detail and fits together very well. No aftermarket needed.
