Following. Do you mean there is life after Tamiya acrylics 😛?

Frank Molnar
Thanks Jv, yeah I had to get paint racks to keep them organised, running out of room though, I'll just have to get some more 😂

Jennifer, I still use Tamiya, Vallejo etc water based, but only for brush work and detailing. I only airbrush with Acrylic Lacquers now, SMS and Gravity.

Never to much space lol I think all have that problem

I am curious: why do you prefer Acrylic Lacquers? And omg that is a lot of paint!

Jennifer, Lacquer paint grips and is touch dry in minutes. I can paint a part or body from Primer to Color, and Clear coat in less than an hour if needed. It won't rub off when handling, and I can mask in 15 minutes. Never had paint lift with tape when using Lacquer based acrylics 👌

Thanks Jv, the Cave is a bit messy at the moment. I should create an album for it when it's a little more presentable 😂

There is plenty to buy secondhand
I also got 14 kits yesterday and 4 more today
One kit was a model set so came with paints and glue
Another the person had bought 3 jars of paints for building
Last I was home I went to 3 model shops and did a cruise on the secondhand
Market to
No paints or tool that time but lots if kits
In the last 2 weeks it's cost me about 2500 aud
Great need for shelf space 😆 🤣 😂

Nice bench. I just added my 2nd paint rack to the upper level of mine. I also just bought my 1st few bottles of SMS paints. I have not shot any yet.

I like to decant Tamiya spray cans and mix them with Mr Levelling Thinner. Gives me a smooth paint job. I never really could master the true acrylics or the acrylic lacquers.

Thanks Bill, a good friend of mine makes these laser cut MDF drawers and paint racks, which is really handy. I'm nearly out of empty spots, so I'll need to either figure out how to stack another tier, or put them somewhere else. I can't speak highly enough of SMS paints, they're a great product 👌

I fill all my empty gloss clear bottles with decanted Tamiya rattle cans. Once they've gassed off, I use every day lacquer thinner from the hardware store without any issues. Since beginning airbrushing, I struggle with rattle can painting, for some reason I tend to spray too heavily and get runs 🤦‍♂️

Forgive me gents, but can any of you guys compare SMS to MRP paints?
SMS seems to be a rarity, here in the UK. However, I really enjoyed airbrushing MRP.

Hi Bozzer, MRP isn't available here in the Land of Oz, so I can't compare it with SMS. I have some Zero Paints and Gravity Paints, compared to these, I still think SMS is more forgiving. Although it's ready to use from the bottle, I still add about 10% Lacquer thinner to the cup. You could try their Cold Chrome on your grille, with a little practice, I reckon it's better than Molotow, and can be handled without rubbing or dulling. Here's a link to their stockist page, hope that helps.

Appreciate your link, frank. As it happens, there's a stockist, less than an hour away from me! I'll give them a call, around lunchtime tomorrow, and see what their current stock is like? It's a model railway shop, but they have a few kits, and plenty of tools for me to not need, but buy anyway! Hopefully, I'll be able to compare the two different manufacturers, and give you a better idea?
Once again mate, thanks for the link 👍 and

No problem Bozzer, any time 👍
Hey, we always buy more supplies we don't need. 😂

The sms paint is a bit hotter than mrp. So a good primer is essential, and the clear coat is so hot, I think 2k primer is best.
