F-16D TAF Tigermeet
The sprues of the mold have seen better days. I hope I can clean this all for a decently fast and fun build.
Cackpit detail is not to bad out of the box. I did tint the HUD glass and I did dril out the cannon port. I don't plan to add much scratch build detail for this one.
The decals for the instrument panels worked great. I hope that is also the case for the bigger decals of the special scheme. I dry brushed the black parts of the cockpit with light grey.
I started detail painting some of the white parts. I also added a dark grey wash.
The cockpit looks decent. I will build this kit with the canopy closed so most of the detail won't be seen. But it's always good practise to make the most of it.
Finished cockpit.
The engine detail is not very good and hard to clean with all the flash. I painted the inside of the turbine black an gave it a aluminium dry brush. The exhaust was painted white and was then dry brushed with a black oil paint.
I tinted the cockpit clear part and then masked it off for painting.
Some more steps are completed. The fit is decent even with al the flash but still some filler is needed. I decided to paint the aim-9s blue to go along with the scheme.
The fit of the fuselage is decent but some sanding a filling is needed. The mold of the 1/72 scale f16 from Academy is more detailed. I also filled the pillon holes that arn't needed.
I wanted to start with the decals to see how the big ones preform. My placement is not the best but the decals do look decent and useable. I hope the even bigger more important ones are also like these.
I modified the decal to fit better and i'm reasonably happy with the result. I need to trim the edges a bit and I did get some damage.
The canopy is added and some more parts are painted.
I finished the exhaust. I added some blue heat staining. I hope this will look good with the scheme.
More decals and parts are finished. The wheels od this kit look pretty decent. I also added the angle of attack antenna's to the radome. Not a big modification.
Preschading finished. Primed black with white preshading.
Base layer 1: Sky grey form Vallejo model air.
Some more painting steps are completed. I'm happy with the preshaded effect.
I still need to spray one more layer but I decided to already paint some detail by hand. The real plane seems to have light grey leading edges in picture so I decided to paint those even if the instruction say otherwise. I do like the look of those. I also tried to outline the canopy frame with a black marker. This looks to be working very well but we will see.
Weapon pilons are finished. Only some weathering left.
Decals are done! Preformance is pretty good. The vertical stabilzer and elevators are not glued yet.
A ammo green brown wash is added to both the upper and lower side.
I adde somem ore weathering with some shipping effects and oil paints.
The final pieces are added and I removed the last masks. I Realised that I forgot the add the jet turbine piece earlier. Well luckily it's not a tail sitter this time like my p-38. I'm also very happy with the black canopy outline.
Finished!!!

It's going decently well. The decals look to be good so I think I can get a decent result!

I finished the kit today. I'm happy with the result. I learned a lot about these big decals and special liveries. This kit need much clean up work but the detail is not bad. I maybe pick one up again when I see a earlier boxing with hopefully a lot less sprue flash.

Great work Vincent! I just love special liveries, even if they're a lot of work it really pays off.

I bought this kit because I needed the pilot figures. But now I want to try a harder scheme with big decals. I hoped this would be a hard build but the kit needs a lot of clean up. Especially the F-16 a parts. But the detil looks ok.
I do not plan to add much detail but I did drill out the cannon barrel. We will see what I can do with this kit.
