Nicely done!
I personally don't mind the "all closed" approach, fewer joints to take care of etc.
Thick Japanese produced decals are a pain, I agree. Low-vis decals are tricky to use in general, you need to nail the contrast between the paint and the decal which is easier said than done.
I think it's best to try the primer/paint/varnish/decals combo on a paint mule first. So many factors can ruin the contrast.
Sure Clement, this is a tricky part, but some vendors can do this job better than others. Nevertheless, I make US Navy/Marines planes not so often. Also, there are often a hig-viz decals.
Album info
The model was built from a Hasegawa 1:72 kit. I would not recommend this kit because it misses the most exciting details: there is no interior at all, all doors are closed, no ordnance or other cool details. This is a transport aircraft, how can it be completely closed? Certainly one can build everything from the scratch but what if I don't have enough patience and time for that?
The molds of the kit are fresh: almost no sanding required, the panel lines are very delicate and thin (but not deep enough for 1:72), the plastic is sturdy as always and quite smooth. I appreciated the PU inserts that make propellers and engine nacelles movable.
But the engineering is not perfect, for example, the wing block is not perfectly aligned with the hull because of insufficient geometric stability. The worst part of the kit are decals: I would recommend to replace them with Xtradecals or something else due to very thick lacquer layer and incorrect colors. The instruction is also messed up a bit, but in general, it is helpful and even gives some tips about painting.
The model was painted with Vallejo, including primers, paints, and varnishes. The latter is quite tricky, and the model looks too flat for my taste.
