I'm a little unsure how I'm going to do that exactly. I bought some Aluminum metalizer from Testors I was planning on using. However, it appears that 1) You need to use it on bare plastic (not primed), and you can't really paint over it very well.

So, I'm going to try and paint it backwards. I'll paint the blue detailing first, then olive drab glare reducer. Then I'll mask over all that, and finally spray the aluminum. I don't know if it will work, but its the best idea I've had so far. If anyone has a better idea, please leave me a message in the comments.

Interesting project. Is the kit any good.I have used that paint before and the way you are doing it is how I do it. but I have painted it over a coat of gloss black primer and it worked ok.

The kit is pretty good. Overall things seems to fit together well, and the detail is good. Some annoyances in the build/paint order. Like the full landing gear needs to be sealed into the wings before you can paint the wings, so that will be a lot of masking work I'm sure.

Good to hear that the aluminum paint still works over a primer. That might change my plans slightly, I may prime the whole thing first in that case, rather than trying to selectively prime one area and not the other.

I take back some of my earlier comments on the fit. Things are not progressing as well as I'd like. The cockpit just kind of floats there, I needed to do a lot of extra work to try and secure it.

A P-47 with nose art.....how did I manage to miss this....It's looking good so far. I've only used Alclad for natural metal, but that goes on best over gloss black or white as well

Pretty happy with the finish from the metalizer, going to let it cure for a little longer, but I think it looks good.

A quick tip on the metalizer, it definitely needs to be buffed out with some cotton balls/cotton swabs after it dries. It leaves a powdery coating after painting which buffs out really nice. Painting/build is now complete, decals are next on the agenda. Should be able to finish this one up soon.

Looks good to me, the nice thing with the buffing metalizer paints, is you can shade different panels by buffing more or buffing less.

How do you buff the paint and when do you buff it ??
25 April 2014, 10:38

After I added the metalizer, but before the decals/sealer, I buffed the metal paint with some cotton balls and Q-Tips, seemed to bring out a nice shine in the end product. I'd recommend wearing latex gloves while doing it to avoid accidental fingerprints, especially if you have a two-tone model, like this one.
