I got a EagleCals decal sheet and some Eduard- etched parts for this Tomahawk. For me a hard decision to chose between both decal versions; but I think "AK461" will be my option at last.

🙂 Always great to see builds from you, even more when the own motivation is on a really low level right now😉

Good choice Roland. I like the Desert Airforce P-40's and with no doubt you will made a stunning model. I'm in 👍

Thank you both mates!
A decision has been made: I will have to build both attractive planes.. 🙂
Here are first pictures of this double build: Trumpis cockpit is ok- despite the error with the cockpits floor- but further detailing had to be done with a little help from Eduard; next will be priming and painting if the basic interior color, followed by another "wave" of painted etched parts.

All etched parts for the interiors have been applied... A little bit laborious, but I hope- and think- worth the effort. Next step will see the connection of the fuselage halfs.

Thank you for your kind words mates! I am eager to see this beautiful fighterplane taking shape! 🙂

Everything in place.
This pictures illustrate a fault hampering this otherwise excellent kit: the cockpit floor is far too high; whatever the length of the pilots legs would be- nobody could take seat in this cockpit...
Hope this will not disturb the appearance of this beautiful plane too much!

Thank you guys for these kind comments!
Just working on the etched parts landing flaps for one of the P-40s... I will show you pics from that next.

Both Fuselages have been filled and sanded -so far as a first coat of glossy black can be applied. This will show hidden faults and can serve as the base for a layer of Alclad "White Aluminum"; these machines will show a lot of tear and wear...
Trumpeters concept of the wheel-layout is rather complex: there are ten parts needed to build up two wheels 🙂

One of my favorite aircraft. Nice progress, Roland.👍 I myself built the 1:32 Hasegawa P-40E

Feel welcome Guido! 🙂
Two steps towards the preparation of torn-off paint: I have sanded the surfaces plain and smooth- reducing the thickness of the maintenance hatch on the left fuselage sides. Then gloss black was sprayed as a base for Alclads "White Alu".

Thank you Erik!
Again, a few steps of painting in this update! On te Alclad-surfaces a preshadinig has been applied, followed by the colours of the underside of the two P-40s. With a needle I damaged the freshly painted areas to simulate small damages often seen on well used material.
Gunze does not offer the color shade "Azure", so I had to mix it for myself. I did use the paints you can see on the last picture.
I am really open for comments on how near- or far the resulting color is from the real thing; I think I won´t make chances on this model, but the soon to follow desert Hurricane and Spitfire Vb will benefit from your know how and experience without doubt! 🙂

All the colours have been applied by now- and, obviously, the decals... For all the "standard" markings I did use the kits decals- and I was scared afterwards: the glittering, inhomogeneous surface did not disappear after applying- as hoped- but was still visible.
Rescue came in form of sanding the decals with a 2000er paper... Something, which resulted surprisingly and fortunately in a quite well looking "decal"!
I will treat all future decals in that way! I think, I have learned something really useful.... 🙂

Guido, I agree with your thoughts about authenticity. A coherent and plausible look is the key to an convincing interpretation; based, of course, on the best sources available. "The whole is more than the sum of its parts" if you like to put it in those famous words...
The P-40s paint shop is finished by now; I had another session with 2000er sanding paper, before everything has got a breeze of sandbrown colour to tone everything down a little bit and a decent washing was done.
Now final assembly of parts is the next and finishing step.
Some progress has been done on the second P-40B in form of Gunze H71, a good solution for the British desert camo.

Shark-mouthed AK461 has been decaled by now- and awaits a second layer of Gunzes gloss clear...
You can see some pictures of it´s recent appearance.

Nice worn out effects on the steps of the root wing, and by the way - nice and sharp as usual Roland🙂

Thank you for your words guys!
I have finished the first Tomahawk of this duo; for these models I am going to prepare a proper "desert" base, but I am showing you pictures of the finished P-40 now- some more will come when the whole project will be finished.
Some scratchwork was done to get a realistic "British" looking of AK490, so a scratched VHF antenna mast, made from stretched sprue and a British style pitot tube made of a needle and etched metal.

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Finished at last! I tried to give my second Tomahawk a decent worn out appearance; it should fit to the dusty desert base...
Thank you for your interest, I hope you will like the pictures!
