WIP - Uragan & Grad
Starting frame.
Some time later...
Frame with some more tanks, rods etc.
Starting side elements with transmission.
Before...
...and after gluing. A lot of attention is needed (and quick drying glue) to do it properly.
Some boxes and folded support legs.
Engine parts
and mounted. I will add some wires and V-belt later.
Dryfit...
Radiators with fans and equipment.
Elements of launcher turntable...
... and almost done.
Launcher tubes with guide (something like rifled barrel)
And PE parts to replace plastic guides.
One side is ok but...
...guide on the other doesn't look good
There is a lot of guides to remove to replace with PE.
Is it worth is as only some will be visible.
Turntable complete. It has option to rotate and elevate so will have the opportunity to adjust launcher after painting.
I found brass tubes with a diameter only a little bit smaller then plastic (0,1-0,15mm) so I will try to build launcher from brass.
Pipes from front segment have been cut. I will connect them with middle and rear section with another smaller tube.
Tubes have been cut to size. Next smaller tubes will be cut and inserted to help join tubes together.
Rainforced plates will be glued with kits U shaped parts, filled with CA glue and then holes will be drilled to assembly all.
Blueprint of connection.
Time for hole drilling, first small, then few different bigger sizes.
From left: Outer tube with smaller parts, to right: with tube two sizes smaller which will fir drilled holes.
This is how it will look.
Front...
...middle...
...and rear sections.
Dry fit.
Launcher almost ready. Parts glued, some PE details added.
As well as front and rear "caps".
Dryfit to launcher base.
Phew! Launcher dryfitted to frame stays on it's place. I was worry how it will behave with all that weight, but looks promising.
Grad kits hubs vs resin ones
Uragan resin hubs
Frames comparison
Uragan vs grad launchers
Uragan resin wheels from miniarm - not too good. Rims too small diameter but too thick. Do not fit to frame. Not satisfied.

Simple engine.

First issue, well maybe not issue but small riddle. Launcher tubes have small guides on each tube, but Trumpeter provided also some PE parts to replace them. It is even provided in manual to remove plastic guides and replace with PE.
Problem is that access to the tubes is not easy and it will be really hard to remove them properly. On the other hand, one side of launcher looks good with plastic guides but other is nasty. You will have to decide which way go. There is no good solution - both will leave with some imperfections.

Thank you Bart. Me too. As of now I have all tubes prepared. Now I will cut some smaller in diamater tubes, glue them inside and cut another tubes (smaller by 2 sizes) as a join parts. All of this is needed as tubes are too big to fit into reinforced plates. So I thought that I will drill smaller holes, fit smaller tubes and then join properly all the launcher parts. Something like last picture/drawing.
I will have to use biggest tubes for launcher, medium just to decrease the diameter and small to join all together.

This thing must weight a ton! Fantastic work, i might do something similar on my "Smerch" because the kit parts have the same "elegant" solution for the launchers with two halves resulting in a beautiful seam across the whole thing and the guiding rods (times 12)....

Thank you Alexander. I have to say its heavy, even very heavy. It might look better but I still wonder if frame of the vehicle will support such big amount of additional weight.

Thanks. I think it's worth but it costs me a lot of work. 😉

Thanks - slowly but progressing.
I found my inspiration for base so now it's time to change idea into reality.

I detect a theme, have NBN seen your Smerch, Wheeled MLRS. Very Nice. Any others planned, perhaps tracked with a TOS-1

Bryn - it was very time consuming task, I'm glad that you like it.
Scitt - I have a TOS in my stash, I just do not have idea for base.
