Tamiya's Sauber Mercedes C9.
The actual "injectors" were left over bits from an update set used on the Hasegawa Rothmans Yamaha MotoGp bike. Perfect for what I needed them for. I NEVR throw away the remains of any build.
There was a LOT of fuel and hydraulics lines to replicate, and the connectors were painted silver then clear red or blue to make them look 'annodised'.
The heat shields were made from the coffee tin foil.
This was the first time I had ever used or even seen the carbon fibre decals, and they took so long to soften up enough to let you 'mould' them and have them conform with these curves.
The blue and yellow pieces are 'shrink' tubing, as are the oil and hydraulic lines.
I believe these units were or are called 'waste gates'. Am I wrong or can someone set me right here. ?
The paint application had to be perfect, as just a speck of dust would have looked like Mt Everest. !
The paint had to be as smooth as possible otherwise it would have prevented the decals from being moved gently into place. And every decal had to match up with all the others.
The headlight components. Here is where I had to use a glue that NO impact on any of the surfaces that glue usually does, and that is why I used a clear gel glue that had no agressive properties.
The lenses look like the real thing, with all the ribbing on the face of the lenses.
I NEVER "cut" clear parts from their sprues. I heat a blade and slice through the mount point, preventing 'shatter' from happening.
the clear fix glue is applied and then attached to the PE backing plates.
The result being. A perfect looking set of lights with the globes deep inside.
An indespensable item all modellers MUST have on their bench.
Minature chrome rivets in the small container and the cover lenses for the main lights have been drilled to receive them.
Placing the outer lense covers on the body work allows to get the holes drilled that will take the back end of the rivets without creating any misfits.
Parafilm is my choice for masking off clear parts like canopies or anything else you can see through.
Test fitting the clear parts to make sure there is nothing else to be done before putting them in place, again, using the clear glue.
From all the handling, there are marks and micro scratches that will be cleared away on the final sstep.
This light goes on the roof, just behind the communications ariel.
Getting to the 'close up' stage. The rivets fitted perfectly.
QMHE competition 2014. GOLD. 🙂

Alexander. I am grateful of your appreciation. 🙂 This kit was built some four years ago and I had it posted but deleted it, thinking it was taking up too much of my allocated space on the SM server. But I was asked to repost it and I could not refuse. hehehe My ego wouldn't let me. hahahaha 👍

Tim. That is wonderful of you to say those things. I thank you very much mate. 🙂 That makes it so worthwhile that my work is worth the effort. It is the personal satisfaction that one can imagine things then make them happen which really is the fun part. hahahaha. I think I am a bit loopy at time, as I will see something on the ground or in an obscure setting and I will immediately apply it to some place in one of my builds. Do Do Do do. !!!! :-o

Chris. I do believe I got the blue/black colour right, and I really had to convince myself that it did have some blue in there somewhere. LOL 🙂

Not at all. It's a pleasure to look through builds such as this. Had a look through the red rod your catalogue as well. Lovely stuff across the board!

Previous comment should have said rest of* not red rod. 😂. I am 33 and I hope to still be building when I reach that age, my friend!! So many kits, and so little time, after all. So many subjects I'm interested in and would like to have even a tiny version of. I will consider myself fortunate indeed to have many years to dedicate to my hobby.

Album info
This was one of the most spectacular cars to appear on a race track. The sponsors (AEG) were producers of computer components from mother boards to all kinds of 'printed circuitry', and the paint job was meant to look like the printed circuitry, and these decals were the hardest thing I have ever tackled.
