Be patient with me on this one mate. 🙂 , as I am the sort of bloke who drops one project in favour of an other part done project when the inspiration and ideas come flooding back on something you have grand ideas for, and this particular build has had my imagination going wild, especially as all the internals scream to be seen. 🙂
The first TAKOM King Tiger was a hoot, but it's that so much had to be destroyed to get it looking ok.🙁
I have looked all over the place for a colour scheme that looked impressive, and I found this one on tanks-encyclopedia.com/ and even though it is a Porch turret, the colour scheme made my mouth water. 🙂

How I ended up with the final result was to base coat the whole model the yellow strip paint, then I rolled out long thin blutac strips the width I felt was adequate for what the stripe would be, then, with the red earth and green were done with the air brush air supply down to about 7psi, just enough to get the paint out of the brush with minimal overspray, and the nozzle as close to the model as possible while spraying.
I had to practice a couple of times until I came up with a setting that gave me the best result.

Yeah, dunno? Bit confusing? Won't be Kezza, he understands the Aussie sense of humour and knows I am in awe of his skills. Ripper bloke too. Think maybe someone else misunderstood what I was saying! It's from an early King Tiger? I used it for an E75, fictional replacement for 332. Oops. 🙂

Rene. The paint scheme I believe is from the panzer division that was sent to Normandy when the Allies were coming ashore, so that was 1944 and pretty late in the whole scheme of things.
But according to the Panzer encyclopedia it was first used on the Porsche turreted early production version. I am simply copying it as it looks spectacular and not necessilary 'time accurate'.
Here is what I found on the beast. I have to keep most of the images I am taking of the build off line for a while, as I have had some guy copy what I have done here in Australia and posted on SM and then enter his version of what I had posted on line in a competition. 🙁
I know I am creating my rendition of what I have all ready seen online, but it's not like I am competing with the creator of that build, but rather I am inspired by what I have seen, motivated to think I can do that too. I think. !

James C , It is a blessing mate. Having first used it on a Ju-87 for desert cammo and been a fan of it ever since. It does have a tendancy to want to stay attached to your fingers as your positioning it, and wants to not stay where it is put. 🙁
Be patient with it Grasshopper. 🙂
The beauty of it is that it leaves no trace of where it's been or markings on any new paint. 🙂 👍

Careful there. On my Leopard BluTack did leave some dark marks, better not leave it on longer than necessary😄

Rene, a good point. But when I use it. I NEVER used 'pre loved' blutac, as that can hold all kinds of nasties. true. "😉

I used a fresh pack as well. Maybe my fingers were super greasy, who knows. But ever since then I heed James' advice to take it off as soon the paint is dry to the touch.

Happened to me too. Applied the putty on the tank, forgot about it, came back to it after a week, removed it and discovered it left all sorts of greasy stains on the paint. So, taking it out as soon as possible is a solid advice.

All good thinking here lads. The ONLY masking material I can leave on for any great length of time is "Parrafilm 'M'". Mostly used on clear parts, but used on the track sections that are attached to the turret in this build. Great stuff with SO many applications. 👍 🙂

Spanjaard. If you have a big roll of the Parrafilm, it will last you 10 years at least. Practice with it at every opportunity mate.

Michael. It took me a hell of a long time and many lengths of Parra, much of it in the bin. But as I said, there are a mirriad of uses for it other than clear canopies and the such. My latest 40m roll only cost $40.00 from a medical supplies company here on the coast.

At first yep. At 45$ it's cheaper by the m2 than the 10mm Tamiya tape😄 using my local prices as comparison 🙂

If you know someone in a lab, the chances are that they will have heaps, as it is also used to create air and water tight joins when assembling the glass tubing. But mostly, it is use in pathology and the agricultural fields too. And, it just lasts for ever as a roll, not breakdown of the film and stretches to 30 times the length you cut first to use. Brilliant in so many ways.
And Peter, one roll will last you a minimum of 10 years. ! Tamiya will cost you much much more than that in the long run.

The 'KEY' to getting the best results is the 'stretch'. :-O
Don't overstretch the piece you want to work with, as too thin and it is almost useless.
There are some great videos on YouTube about how to use it and how to cut a score mark on parts so that the blade will have no or very little damage done
You don't need to squeeze the guts out of it to make it stick, just a gentle amount of pressure in a 'PINCH' will be more than enough to get it to work best. Yes, try not to crush the delicate clear canopies when laying the film on the part to be painted, and use a brand new cutting blade with zero pressure when 'cutting in' around the canopy 'frame' .
And, use just enough for the job requirements. Don't over estimate how much will be required. "Less is more" with parrafilm.
