From this photo, it seems that a lot of work needs to be done to fit the nose. In fact, this one being dimensionally correct, it will not be difficult to fill the space, and to smooth the whole. The engraving will have to be redone.

Album image #4
The Cold War Studio APU fits perfectly to the fuselage! but the engraving is once again inconstant. It deserves to be redone.

The positioning of the Trumpeter seats is questionable. They do not touch the ejection rails. The Quickboost seats fit better but they leave little space to the control stick. You have to keep some part of the injection sprue to adjust their height.

Album image #6
The Trumpeter ejection seats are not so bad, but the Quickboost models are much better. The Neomega are finer, but unfortunately, my copies are poorly molded with bubbles and lack of materials.

Album image #7
It is imperative to form the photoetched piece on the surface of the model before gluing it with epoxy. I've drilled some holes to inject ultra thin cyanoacrylate glue from inside for strengthening.

Album image #8
I had to build from scratch the fairing of the barrel outlet by forming a thin sheet of brass around the original part. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to properly shape the inlets. I removed them. I'll try later, sticking Baremetal Foils over them.

Album image #9
My representation of the avionic bay is very approximative, the cockpit wall is almost 100% accurate.

Album image #10
Unfortunately, the Eduard PE parts color do not match the MrPaint MRP-195 Sukhoi Cockpit Blue Gray. Fortunately, it's very easy to repaint them around the instruments with a fine brush.

Album image #11
The canopy must be masked in and out. As you can see, the canopy lack some détails... The Eduard interior set helps a lot, nevertheless, it will take a lot of personal work to represent the curtains !

Album image #12
The canopy needs to be upgraded with its upper panel (from Eduard), which is very visible from outside. The metalic part was glued thanks to pieces of styren that you can see through the plastic. I used the standard Tamiya extra fluid glue.

I worked over the avionic bay to give it a more appropriate look for what is usually a place with many black boxes! Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of pictures available from these area. I create most details of only one partial picture … 70% are coming from my imagination!

I'm sorry for the time between my updates. I'm not a very fast builder !

My objective with the canopy is to represent the curtains. I will probably use some cigarette paper for that.

I've purchased the Quick Boost nose to compare it with the CWS model. the shapes are very close, but if the molding quality is pristine, the fit is not. The heigth is ok, but the width lack 0,5mm on each side. However, it should be easy to shape the fuselage with a file so as to conform it to the nose size without the use of putty.
Now I have to take a decision ! Cold War Studio or Quickboost ?
It's not an easy question, both have their pros and cons althought I think the CWS is worth the price to be cleaned, and re-engraved because of it better dimensional fit. Wait and see 🙂

I have heard of the short comings of the kit. Not high on my personal list, but interesting to see how making the model more accurate goes. 🙂

I'm slightly confused on why everyone keeps chopping off the noses on the HB 34? What's wrong with the nose? How's the kit in general does it fit good?

I would have preferred to let the nose like that, but when you compare to the real one, the tip is too rounded, and more complicate to fix, it doesn't have the famous platypus look…
