Thanks bobinspokaloo. Nice aren't they! Wish I could take credit but no, these are decals that come with the kit. Some of the best I have had from Airfix. They wrapped around very nicely.

Thanks Christian and Erik. I enjoyed this little Airfix kit. Bi-plane rigging at 1/72 was actually easier than I had anticipated thanks to the EZ line. I hope Airfix do a few more. In the meantime I have a Roden Felixstowe in 1/72 lined up. That will be more challenging!!

Thanks very much Daniel. I hope to make a start soon on the Felixstowe bobinspokaloo. I have heard it is something of a difficult build? Be only too happy to post the build on SM.

Nice result, Mike! And in this small scale 👍 This reminds me to continue on my Bristol Fighter with masking squares😉

Thanks bughunter. Yes it was a nice little kit. I am tempted to build another one now using the alternate scheme which is also very nice. I will look forward to seeing your 'Biffy'.

I'm total foreigner to the aircraft side of the hobby, I'm a car guy... but this is amazing, I love it. How long did it take to do the string parts? I wish I could fiddle with things that small. A++

Hi Chris and thanks very much. Actually the rigging didnt take that long on this kit. I did it over two or three sessions, so around six hours ? Its actually a bit of a cheat on this one.
I have recently started using EZ line which makes this job so much easier. The advantage is that it is very stretchy without deforming. I only anchor the line at strategic points. After getting one end stuck down with super glue you can then move on to the next strut and knot it tightly at the base with a dab of glue to hold it. Then on to the next one using the same piece of line. So on and on until you get back where you started. Working that way you use just a few pieces to 'quickly' build up the complexity.
It does help to use a magnifier. I have this set of lenses which I now use all the time.

not Native American in any way, but no one knows anything more then a couple generations ago in heritage... I'm probably just 100% mutt

Absolutely superb, it must have taken a lot of patience (and skill!!) to paint all those squares. 🙂

A great looking model, Mike! Kudos for rigging, too! Double bay biplane rigging is not for the faint of heart...

Thanks Guy. Gotta come clean. Those 'painted' squares are decals. Comes with the kit.

Hi Gorden Sorensen. I am in training for a Revell 'Cutty Sark' build which my missus said would look nice on the shelf. That is some serious rigging to contend with!! EZline are going to do well out of me. Looking forward to that someday soon.

Mike, even with the squares being decals the aircraft is a superlative example, very impressed. 🙂

Looks mighty fine! Very cool design. The "chessboard" looks like it's painted, very nice and clean work 👍

Thank you very much Kees, Alexander, Stephan, Cuajete, Roberto, Tom, nikolaos, Alec and Jens.
Really enjoyed this little kit. My first serious go at a 1/72 biplane. Will certainly be building some more in 2019. Probably the Roden Felixstowe first. Happy days...

Thanks Alec. Its a bit crazy. Feel sorry for that top gunner. Would love the Wingnut kit but its just too big/expensive. Have to move house.

Top work! I don't even know how to properly rig a 1:48 biplane, you do it at 1:72! Chapeau as they say here...

I think you are right Olivier. I find the pioneering days of aviation quite fascinating. The risks they took just would not happen these days. Enjoyed this little kit. A venture into 1/72 bi-planes, suprising how much detail you can pack in!

Also late to the party and also nice to read that the these are kit decals. I have the kit in my stash - was meant to be a quick "palette cleanser" but the chequerboard scheme is pretty intimidating. Beautiful build!

Thank you all. Little tip - use varnish to stick the chequerboard on the main uprights. Impossible to stick otherwise.

There have been some superb 1/72 bi-plane builds on SM lately so I am inspired to have a go.
Usually I do 1/48 or even 1/32 for bi-planes. Rigging at 1/72 will be a new experience.
