Very cool, but careful - the flaps do not work like you have cut them. There is no hinge between the thin forward portion and the large flap; the thin portion actually lays on top of the flaps when they are in 'up' position. The following image shows what I mean: [img1]

Thanks Ben, you are absolutely correct about those fowler flaps and on my previous Hornet I sawed everything into pieces, reconstructed the profile with putty, thinned down the cover part on top and glued it on at the end...yeah, so this is just a cheap attempt to cheat😉 the cover part is bent down a bit as well and it actually looks really close to the proper done variant IMO. But I fear I may just have to disassemble the flaps anyway to get into the gaps at the wing root for puttying&sanding. We'll see...

Got the main fuselage together, cleaned up and ready for primer. But the next step is the canopy tint, this is the part me and my nerves are always most afraid of...

well, yes, theres a little bit is left, though I would need more for proper dipping...i have to dip it on one half, then quickly turn it arround and dip the other half😉 I also have floor polish from Emsal, but I didnt test it yet on canopies

First time using furball decals, always heard good things about them, and yeah, I'm a fan now 👍

Just had a moment of utter terror when I looked at pics of my just finished fins 😮 I uploaded the before&after the surgery ... damn, I need more coffee. Just a testament to the quality of those decals though, most I know would have not survived the treatment I gave it - phew!

Decals are on, tomorrow I will start with adding some dirt. Meanwhile I am fiddling with the jdam kit. The loadout will be: Centerline tank, 2 GBU-38 right, one GBU-32 and an AIM-9X on the left. And the ATFLIR of course.

Seems I am on the last stretch of this WIP, main wheathering is done, just waiting for the oils to dry for the matt coat. Maybe also add some little scratches&mini-streaks beforehand. Went for a heavier wheathering as normally seen on a CAG - but those do get dirty on deployment as well.😉 I like the glossy colorful CAG look as well as the grimy war look, so this is a good opportunity to get the best of both worlds. I found pics where the anti-slip-coating was stripped off heavily on the right side and tried to replicate this to add something more unusual. This was done with sandpaper, where I peeled the upper surface with tweezers an d a sharp blade. So I guess these are the last pics here, next will be the rollout. Thx for stopping by! 🙂
