The first step was to add the extra support struts to the wings. I used a 10mm wide tape strip to make sure the distances were always the same and then scraped away the surface detail using a chisel

The extra struts were added using some leftover Fine Molds TIE wing frame pieces cut to size

The Revell ball was then dressed up with detail pieces and guns, also from a FM kit

Finally the back of the ball was sanded off and a resin big engine (provided by JBOT) was glued in place

The big engine piece is designed for a FM kit but it looks OK on the bigger ball (and maybe even closer to the original drawing)

The wings and fuselage are now painted and decalled

I used some leftover FM decals

Album info
This is a pretty simple conversion of a Revell TIE Fighter into the ground support/superiority version as seen in one of the old Star Wars newspaper comic strips. I've used the Revell kit as a base as its the same size as a Bandai kit but a bit cheaper. It can be detailled with bits from a Bandai or Fine Molds kit but does need grooves cut into the wing edges as they are molded flat.
