The China Clipper takes a stand!!
Just after completion....with cardboard stand...i promised this model that would change....
The model itself was a bit of lark and is actually a very hard aircraft to find....this one had missing pieces and terrible decals...but the big orange painted wing and the striping was fun and turned out OK...
....yes...the stand is just that ugly...it lasted about as long as the photo session
....the wing truly was a kick to mask and paint...this was a decal in the original kit....
....this would be a great kit for someone to make....
....more harvested or printed decals....
....so, what was done, they all cried in unison??!!
....lots of wing parts so time to get creative....
...before the rattle can paint came out....
.....after the rattle can paint....
A new wing/stand.... so our Clipper can appear to be on its own wings....
....Another model waiting for the photo setup to go back up....it will be a good cold weather months project....
Photos are up from the rebuilt stand (and rebuilt photo flashes)
The first series of photos from the new flash setup revealed a blue hue coming from the background...enjoy but know there are better photos on the way..

A new sample photo using the new flash setup with four wireless controlled flashes, two as the main lights and two as backlights to fill in the color and add some modeling.

Excellent result! (I build this model to about 20 years ago and know this old kit)

Thank you everyone! This was about as much of a modeling lark as could be imagined ,,,..
...while the new flash setup is up, it also has a flaw, which was probably present in the old setup....it has a distinct blue hue on the backside of the models from the reflected blue background.
This lead to an investigation and purchase of two inexpensive flash units to add to the two flash setup now. These will be used to fill in the rear with flash daylight balanced light and hopefully give a more realistic result.
Photos of and from the modified and enhanced flash setup, once in place.
Again, thanks, everyone...your words are an inspiration...

Beautiful work on an old and challenging kit. Those were truly elegant flying boats! I especially like the in-flight display from a Vega's wing.

This was a simple project that never made it into Scalemates....brittle plastic, missing parts....all the decals are printed on an ink jet or harvested from other kits...
....and some lazy modeler posted it with a cardboard stand....so it was time for a change...
