DHC-6 in progress
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/9/6/0/1115960-82560-86-720.jpg)
The beginning! I'll be using the Aerocraft update set so first thing will be some chopping! Not done this before...
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/9/6/1/1115961-82560-55-720.jpg)
First time using craft saw!! Managed to get it about ~1mm wrong at the bottom.. some filling will be required 🙁
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/9/6/2/1115962-82560-30-720.jpg)
Fuselage is glued together and here's the resin part that will be filling in (lol) for the cockpit section
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/9/6/3/1115963-82560-24-720.jpg)
Aerocraft models resin parts, here doing a dry fit. Much better than the original canopy, at least so far! I've already managed to get an errant blade mark on the port side windscreen, let's see how much more damage I can do..
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/9/6/4/1115964-82560-36-720.jpg)
20 grams of weight in the nose according to instructions. Crammed a bunch of liquid gravity mixed with PVA in the nose cone but still only around 15gm will fit, so will need to figure out where else to add weight
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/9/6/5/1115965-82560-35-720.jpg)
Decided to glue the nose cone to the cockpit section at this point. Good idea? We'll find out.. Can't help using a bit of flory wash on the interior bits even though most will not be seen
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/9/6/6/1115966-82560-19-720.jpg)
Cockpit bits coming together. Decals are surprisingly good for an old kit.. love the seatbelts! Bit of flory all round for some definition
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/9/6/7/1115967-82560-85-720.jpg)
Canopy was dipped in Klear and masked.. need to remember to add some liquid mask over the middle of the main panels!!
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/9/6/8/1115968-82560-58-720.jpg)
Figured out where I could add the extra weight!! More liquid gravity added under the cockpit floor. This one's definitely not going to be a tail sitter!!
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/9/6/9/1115969-82560-85-720.jpg)
As a result of my bad sawing, we have a pretty severe gap problem going on here. Will need some big fixing
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/9/7/0/1115970-82560-80-720.jpg)
Perfect Plastic Putty for the first round of sand and fill (there will be many)
Also sanded back the very prominent prop guard panels on each side behind the cockpit doors as these seemed pretty much invisible in reference photos

![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/9/7/1/1115971-82560-86-720.jpg)
I'm not making the float version so these placeholders will need to go
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/9/7/2/1115972-82560-12-720.jpg)
All is calm for now..
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/9/7/3/1115973-82560-71-720.jpg)
After a first coat of Alclad primer & microfiller, the second round of putty.. and sanding..
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/9/7/4/1115974-82560-10-720.jpg)
Getting there
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/9/7/5/1115975-82560-88-720.jpg)
Still big seams, maybe some Mr Surfacer 1000 will help?
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/9/7/6/1115976-82560-86-720.jpg)
Aerocraft nacelles superglued on and again, more sanding needed
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/9/7/7/1115977-82560-97-720.jpg)
Second coat of primer. Still work to do, particularly around the cockpit doors 🙁
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/9/7/8/1115978-82560-93-720.jpg)
Adding some styrene sheets into the massive gaps under the engines.. according to reference pictures these are supposed to be quite thin
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/9/7/9/1115979-82560-20-720.jpg)
Disaster mitigation! My terrible sawing earlier resulted in a very bad seam on the port side of the cockpit and a hairline crack formed. rather than pull the whole thing apart I decided to drill a hole between the two parts and fill it with a load of superglue! Will fill the hole later and hope it helps structurally.. fingers crossed
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/1/9/0/1122190-82560-37-720.jpg)
Drilled some holes in the fuselage and filled with superglue & milliput to finish. Hopefully, no more cracks!!
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/1/9/5/1122195-82560-55-720.jpg)
Trying to cut some masking tape to the exact right width of the prop stripes..
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/1/9/6/1122196-82560-33-720.jpg)
Digital calipers very handy for this job
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/1/9/7/1122197-82560-67-720.jpg)
Time for some brass! Aerorcraft replacement undercarriage. Decided to attach these now rather than later
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/9/8/1122198-82560-15-720.jpg)
masking props
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/1/9/9/1122199-82560-72-720.jpg)
Perfect Plastic Putty and much sanding to get that transition between the brass and the model right.. more work needed
*edit: only just noticed that the actual aircraft has a noticeable offset on the landing gear, so my smoothing is actually inaccurate 🙁

![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/2/0/1/1122201-82560-50-720.jpg)
Priming has begun.. more sanding needed still. Primed in Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 first while getting the cockpit area right, then a couple of coats of Tamiya Fine white. Going to have to find some cheaper solutions though, this stuff is expensive, and I've used nearly a whole can for this model..

![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/6/3/1/1122631-82560-53-720.jpg)
Some quick ref to make sure the prop stripes are the right size! Or roughly speaking, at least. Note that the kit instructions have the stripes the wrong way round, it should be red/white/red, not white/red/white
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/4/1/0/1126410-82560-62-720.jpg)
Clearing out the hole for the brass front landing gear
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/4/1/1/1126411-82560-27-720.jpg)
Yellow is going on!!
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/4/1/2/1126412-82560-70-720.jpg)
Preparing to drill a hole for the front landing gear strut
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/4/1/3/1126413-82560-57-720.jpg)
Nose gear looking ok so far. Primed with Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 and topped with Alclad Aluminium
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/4/1/4/1126414-82560-46-720.jpg)
Found some cheap leather hole punches online—needed a bit of sanding with a dremel to get them nice and sharp but they make great cutters for circular masks for tyres 😄
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/4/1/5/1126415-82560-59-720.jpg)
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/8/8/5/1126885-82560-79-720.jpg)
Should have waited until after painting to add the flap actuators.. major masking pain. Also, small plastic bag helps if you are a lazy masker!
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/8/8/6/1126886-82560-24-720.jpg)
Some painted stabilisers
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/8/8/7/1126887-82560-67-720.jpg)
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/9/1/0/1127910-82560-15-720.jpg)
More elaborate masking
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/9/1/1/1127911-82560-37-720.jpg)
And more...
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/9/1/2/1127912-82560-41-720.jpg)
Leather hole punches make good corners for masking
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/9/1/3/1127913-82560-21-720.jpg)
Will it never end??
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/9/1/4/1127914-82560-83-720.jpg)
Many small touch ups required but the overall effect is getting there..
* Lost many of the flap actuators (which I should have left for later), these will need to be re-added

Decals are going on! This may take a while...

Went this way not so long ago (stuck on the props currently), following 🙂

nice project. liquid gravity is quite a nice idea but rather expensive. I bought a 1 kg-sack of small lead pearls online for less than 20 € and this will last me a lifetime.

Fantastic updates. Actuator story sounds like happening to all of us building it 🙂

I know the feeling of never-ending masking. But at the same time I find it such a zen-like thing. The hole puncher is a really good idea, I might try to find something similar.
