Welcome aboard! It a tricky build, especially since I have decided to paint most components before the final assembly.
The kit dates back to the late 80's and although the level detail is fine, the tooling seam to be a victim of times. There was a lot of deformation in the wings (migth have to shim one side) & the 2 half of the fuselage doesn't have the same length. this could been in the initial tooling or might have occur if one side of the mold have to be repair in the past.
None the less, it a rare subject and I been looking for to purchase a kit of this airplane for over a year so I'm quite happy that Hobby 2000 Put this reasonably priced kit on the market this year.

The right wing needed to be fill wit putty after welding it to the fuselage. It the bound with the putty was constantly cracking so I dropped a few drop of super thin glue and it created fine layer that a bound that it holding up.

Thank you Villiers de Vos & Nathan. I started the paint job today. Apart from some cracking, it's coming along very nicely. I'm quite exited to start the main camo this weekend.

Thank you Rich!
Decals are don I'm ready for the weathering. I must say that this kit had the best set of decals I ever worked with.

I have used Tamiya X-F5 For RLM82 and XF-61 for the RLM81 (dunkelgrün version). For the RLM76 I used a mix of XF-65 with 40% white in it.
The dunkelgrün made me fell color bling. It's very green on it's own but look brown when you put it nest to bright green (RLM 2)

I had the same problem when I tried the new Tamiya XF-89. It was supposed to be a better German dark green, but it looked way to brown to me. Your decals look like they were painted on!

The paint came out great. I've always had good luck using Tamiya paints.

Rich: I used some decal softener ant when they are dry I spray over them with a mat clear.
Nathan: I also mostly use Tamiya. Mostly due to the fact that they are the most easy to find at my local hobby shops. But I have to admit that they are a bit like the Toyota of paint to me. Always giving me good result. The only issue I some time have with Tamiya are with my RLM65 & RLM76 (XF-23) mixes. The they sometimes, get a weird powdery texture or like on this one, crack when I apply the clear coat.

I'm a bit sad that the build is almost over. I've being waiting so long to to find this model and now it's going to be over. 😛

Yes, I have equipped my self with some Alclad product. So far metallic finishes have not been my strong suit, so I hope I'll get a decent result this time. I might even use the paint booth at work to ensure a very clean environment.

Go for it Guillaume! I was terrified of metal finishes for many many years but the good folks around here convinced me to try & now I love the challenge.

Hi Guillaume, you turned this old plastic into a very good looking 2022 model! The riveting work speaks from itself, and the paint over it is very well executed. Congratulations
