Mazda mx-5
The underside is neat and detailed enough, but basically just black with aluminium details.
Interior is intended to follow UK SE-spec tan leather. The yellow ochre colour is more tan than yellow in real life.
Transparencies prepared. Roof and windscreen masked and sprayed; rear lights hand painted.
Body is sprayed.
As usual I couldn't resist a look-see before a final clear coat.
So transparencies are painted but not fixed.
No mirrors yet.
And no wipers or number plates.
Flatted and polished and mirrors etc. added. Colour is blue rather than grey, honest.
Roof is a transparency painted black on the inside.
Side windows were cut from the windscreen/quarterlights and glued to the removable roof.
Roof removed and tonnau added.
Lamps and rear numberplate now fixed.
Dark grey wash was added to highlight panel lines. Washes were also applied to the wheels and underside.
Wipers and sidelights in place. I hereby declare this Mazda complete.

IMHO the yellow body would be also a good chose. With black interior, but true, it's not so interesting

Hi Istvan, there's already a nice yellow example on here (and from experience even coverage with yellow paint takes lots of coats). A nice British Racing Green would be nice but also a bit clichéd. I thought I'd go with something different - a bit Californian. It struck me yesterday though, this light blue was a common colour on BMW Z3s, so not too special after all.

Gotta love an MX-5. I have my 1:1 scale parked in the garage and it is an SE so if you need any tips on the interior let me know.

A cunning plan, but the interior is basically finished. Its missing a classy steering wheel so I'm just faking a wood rim on the standard one. Same with the gear knob and handbrake. What colour is your SE?

That unusual color cought my eye! Good joice. In combination with this tan interior it looks nice. One little thing: it would be looking better if you use clear colors for the rear lights. More realistic.

excellent work - next paint job have a quick look at "House of Kolor" website for inspiration - they make the best pearl and flake paints. I would love to use their paints on a model but sadly I dont own an airbrush.

Hi Christian. Thanks for the feedback. Actually the rear lights and side markers are in Mr. Hobby clear red. I don't have a clear orange, so I mixed the flat fluorescent orange that I do have with gloss varnish to try and get the right effect. It was pale and patchy and I had to keep adding more orange to get it looking OK on the sprue. I may have added too much as the variation in the red is much less visible when mounted on the car itself.

I've been meaning to get around to this kit for ages, but I couldn't decide on the colour. Red is the obvious choice, and was the colour of the only mx-5 that I've driven, but just seemed too sensible. I have finally decided on the light blue that I used for engine details on the Subaru WRX I just finished. A quick google search found some real world examples that looked cool in a variety of light blue shades so we'll see how it goes. I'll also go for a tan leather interior. There are already some excellent blow-by-blow build albums on here so I'll keep this one brief.
