Suomalaiset Panssarivaunut - The Finnish Armoured Vehicles
In summer 1919 the finnish Tank Regiment was established with Renault FT models. In the 1930s Vickers tanks were put through trials and some Vickers 6 ton tanks entered service. During the Winter War 1939/40 lots of soviet equipment was captured, of which mainly T-26 tanks served as standard tanks. In the Continuation War 1941-44 BT-5, BT-7, T-34 and a few KV-1 amongst others were added. German StuG 40/StuG III Ausf. G were delivered in 1943 and served until the 1960s. After the war mainly british equipment was used, followed by a period of soviet AFV's including T-54, T-72, BTR 60, BMP-1. The Sisu XA-180 APC was a finnish development. Leopard 2 are the backbone of todays armoured troops. For more than 100 years finnish armour displays a great variety of AFV's and different camouflage schemes.
