The large canopy is cemented on with acrylic cement (Ammo Ultra Glue). The fit is quite good, but because of the frames...

Thomas, I knew you were going to get this kit! 🙂
I was hesitating a lot between the Swedish box and the Jordanian box. It took me a long time to decide, but in the end I ordered the Jordanian one because I already have several future projects with that fantastic Swedish scheme.
I follow you with great interest (as always). It is quite possible that I will finally regret choosing the Jordanian box 😉

Did some dry-fitting yesterday, and just as I expected by the looks of it, it is definitely A-model quality. A lot of fettling, scraping and sanding is required for a decent fit of the major parts such as the fuselage halves and the wings. Good thing it is a small model!
11 August 2022, 07:18
![](/profiles/img/20363-907-s.jpg)
It seems that it is of the same "quality" as their SF260 and Alpha jet kits. Have you ever built the venerable Airfix kit ?

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
I will watch too how you turn this ugly duck into a beautiful swan.

![](/profiles/img/57594-145-s.jpg)
Erik, I actually think that this is a retooling of the Airfix kit. Slightly different parts and recessed panel lines, but the breakdown is almost identical.

![](/profiles/img/18052-335-s.jpg)
I´m following. Looks like a bunch of work to get a proper model out of this kit. I'm sure you will handle it.

![](/profiles/img/27826-126-s.jpg)
I think KP/AZ should start an improvement their molds after so many kit releases and sales, as Special Hobby has already successfully done. It is curious that for some kits they make good molds (such as the Bf-109) and for others they are so mediocre.
Despite this, I am sure that Thomas will do an extraordinary job 👍

I am a little late, but from now I will follow with pleasure and interest (like all Thomas's previous builds 😉 )

Looks like a lot of craftsmanship will go into this kit before the end of the build... Curiously following 👍

This little kit is definitely putting up a fight in every step. Silly me, I thought this was going to be a relaxed weekend project, ha ha. 🙂

KP short run = long work. I prefer Vallejo putty for filling seams on this type of kits, as it comes with a fine tip
15 August 2022, 18:39
![](/profiles/img/57594-145-s.jpg)
Erik yes, I think the photo shows a bit of my frustration with the seam lines. It should not be like this for a 2022 tooling.

![](/profiles/img/27826-126-s.jpg)
Thomas, will the skinny front landing gear hold the weight of all those fishing weights?
17 August 2022, 10:59
![](/profiles/img/57594-145-s.jpg)
Well, those weights are juuuust barely enough to keep the Bulldog on its nose gear and still kind of pivots around its main gear. Good thing that the entire engine compartment behind the dashboard is empty so with some Tetris skills you can fill it completely with those fishing weights.
17 August 2022, 17:44
![](/profiles/img/20363-907-s.jpg)
So the front wheel does not support any weight, as the nose is in balance with the tail. I had the same problem with KPs SIAI Marchetti, and the SH Marchetti needs also quite some weight in the nose.
17 August 2022, 17:57
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
not a shake an bake-kit for sure. I like how you tackle it. For maximum usage of weight in tight spaces consider lead granules. They come rather cheap by the kilogram and have a diameter of max 1 - 2 mm. You can even drill a hole into the fuselage after it is closed and pour the granules in - followed by some white glue to fix them.

After having lingered in the limbo state of half-finished projects, I have decided to reboot this build. The screwed up paintjob was removed with IPA alcohol and the model is now back to bare plastic. Some correcting fills are done and it is soon time to reapply the primer. I will make my life easier this time and just build the standard Swedish Air Force version. But I have already purchased a second kit to be finished with the Swedish Army splinter camouflage as I think I know this time how to do it properly. Stay tuned!

Great to see that you have restarted the kit. The weight distribution is a real pain. Had similar challenges with my Airfix SK61 build some months ago, Liquid Gravity sorted the issue.
SwAF livery will look aces. Keep up the spirit!👏🏼👍🏻

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
No idea what that livery will look like, but nice that this one is back at the bench. Reminds me of my Safir which is at a similar state.

You could try pinning the rear elevator with small brass pins, that's what I do when I have some piece that keeps coming off.

![](/profiles/img/143658-485-s.jpg)
Thanks for the idea, Ben. I won't touch this model again (unless for throwing it in the trash) but will probably need it for the next wobbly WW2 Revell build.
5 July, 20:13
![](/profiles/img/143658-485-s.jpg)
Thanks, Ben! I do like the look of the final model despite some shortcomings. It looks better in real life than on the closeup photos, perhaps on behalf of my poor eyesight 😉 I still believe Revell could have avoided some of the flimsy bits. The Tamiya Bf109G will be one of my next builds and it will be interesting to see the differences between those kits.

I'm building this kit at the moment. You did a great job on the camo masking. I'm using a masking set from DN Models, but it hasn't made it any easier! 😂 The kit itself is beautiful with fantastic details for a 1/72 scale one. I'm definitely going to buy this in 1/48 soon, though not sure if I'll attempt the camo again, 😂.

Every time I see one of the Viggens with its lovely splinter camo, I feel the urge to start the ones in my stash. Beautiful work, especially considering the completely manual tape masking method!

My mates said it all. Nice job.
The new kits from Special Hobby are really gems (I build the Super Mystere which was really lovely), but the more you go back the better a modeller you need be. That shows what an impressive development they made.

![](/profiles/img/123598-879-s.jpg)
Thanks for all the kind words! 🙂
@Jason: I actually bought a masking kit at first as well, but I couldn't get it to fit and eventually managed to rip it.
@Michael: The Super looks cool as well! Would be nice if they released a Draken and Gripen as well. I haven't built any of their older kits, but this one had almost zero fit issues.

With these pictures I am starting a project that I am deliberately building parallel to the Boeing 307 'Stratoliner': both aeroplanes are apparently based on the same concept and not only have identical designs, but also share components such as wings, landing gear and engines. The Academy kit has an excellent fit and a refreshing simplicity, so to speak: the interiors would be practically empty except for the simplest seats. So I borrowed a little from my etched parts box and fitted the metal seats with matching upholstery. It certainly looks better than originally! 🙂

The fuselage halves are now together - the accuracy of fit remains excellent...

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Thank you mates!
The pictures are no longer up to date, but show an important step forward: all clear parts are masked!
5 June, 18:11
![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
To avoid giving the impression that nothing has happened: the first layer of Alclad 'White Aluminium' has already been applied over this black!

![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
Now the B-17B has its NMF dress and will not take it off: in the meantime I have sprayed a layer of gloss paint so that I can start applying the decals tomorrow.
23 June, 15:27
![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
That makes me very happy - thank you!
A few quick pictures of the current state: I tried to apply the decals yesterday, but the Academy material turned out to be extremely brittle. The beautiful decal marking in red-white-blue on the rudder was a complete self-destructior - and that to such a clear and impressive extent that I even wanted to take a photo of it, because it looked funny 🙂
Well, no big deal, I'll just spray this part myself. In general, the photos make it clear that the decals need to be repaired or even redone in some places.
25 June, 07:18
![](/profiles/img/27826-126-s.jpg)
Many times it is better to paint instead of using some decals. Luckily that has an easy solution, Roland. You do much more complicated arrangements than this and always have very good results. Cheer up!
25 June, 17:28
![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
A few new pictures of the B-17B under construction: the tail is now in the characteristic red-white-blue colour scheme, now the phase begins in which the need for improvement and touch ups is recognised and the various small parts such as antennas, brake lines or the engines/cowling - well, here one can no longer speak of "small parts" due to the amount of etched parts. I can't wait to see how the clear parts have held up under the masking!
29 June, 19:28
![](/profiles/img/10148-258-s.jpg)
