Mr D
Nice choice of kit, like the way your clock's/ instruments have turned out.
Was each clock individual??
Good stuff, my next kit is a Tamiya, was good quality.
Thanks for uploading 👍👍
19 August, 18:59
John
Thanks Mr D. You can't go wrong with a Tamiya, at least in terms of fit. Sometimes their details get simplified and supposedly a few kits have accuracy issues, but for assembly they are great. Had to do this one after the A-20G since it was so painfully fussy to fit together. This is a nice change!

I thought about punching out each instrument individually but it's so small it would have driven me mad. Fortunately, the decal is sized perfectly to the panel so if you align it carefully, it turns out fine.

This kit doesn't specifically say it, but you can do both open and closed engine panel. Since the engine fits with pins and poly caps, you can change them out, which I intend to do. It's a nice touch and the kit is fairly cheap. Pick one up if you haven't already.
19 August, 19:34
Mark Sherwood
I agree, after a frustrating build. You can go to a Tamiya kit and get back to what the hobby is about. . . Enjoyment, satisfaction, reasonable accuracy and a decent finish. Good interior John, looks like the 162 is on track as I would expect from your good self. 🤘🥸🤟🥸👍
21 August, 07:43

Brilliant thanks for the Advice John..😃👍👍. Appreciate it.
Good luck with rest of build ...nice subject 👌

Ian Doody
Made a start on the 1/32 Trumpeter F4F-4 Wildcat, I'm having my wings permanently folded, this is just all dry fitted so far, I'll add more detail later when the wing is added. No point cleaning up the inside part of the wing of ejection holes, as this will be hidden behind the wing. Think it looks ok so far.
2 August, 14:11
Ian Doody
So today I've semi painted up the other sides wing root fold system. And started dry fitting the engine. Need to pick a scheme from the Techmod decals at some point, thinking of 1 or 4 so far.
2 August, 14:19
Ian Doody
Ooh landing gear and engine support structure. Just needs a few touchups, thats it done for now, have to glue it all up straight away, doing it later would be a pain in the ass. Looks ok, I'm no expert on these things. Just for fun build in-between other stuff.
8 August, 12:51
Ian Doody
I think, as an engine that'll do really, don't need anymore detail on it. Couldn't see it if it was there anyway. I'll paint the rear bank of cylinders, but that's probably it.
9 August, 13:43
Ian Doody
That's all for today, making the most of what you get in the kit, only added bits of wire, no sense going mad with detailing parts you wont see. Prop tomorrow, finish the rear bank of Cylinders, and make a start on the cockpit. Looking nice so far, looks like an engine to me.
9 August, 13:43
Ian Doody
Engine, exhaust manifold system and front bulkhead done. For what you can see, the kit parts are good enough. No point spending lots of money on a resin engine. Just some wire and a bit of paint.

That's it for today, don't think I can handle seatbelts as well. So far so good, looks like a cockpit, when it's in the plane, you won't see anything. I tarted up the kit seat, as I couldn't stomach making the PE eduard one.
11 August, 19:54
Rui S
hum, hum 😎 looking good 👍
11 August, 21:43
Ian Doody
So I can do seat belts, but I hate doing seatbelts, not brilliant, but for all you'll see, it'll do me. My fear of PE is lessening, I'm getting a bit more confident each time, next the top straps. Then I can tackle the joining of the fuselage halves together, which is tricky on the 1/32 Trumpeter F4F-4 Wildcat, as a few parts need extra sanding to fit. Looks ok to me so far.
13 August, 11:00
Ian Doody
Seatbelts done, that'll do. With my eyesight it'll look amazing from far away lol 😆 but for me, as a learning exercise, looks fine. I would wholeheartedly recommend HGW Laser seatbelts, they make it a lot easier.
13 August, 13:09
Ian Doody
Tomorrow I'll make a start on the Empennage and getting everything to fit. I'm not using any of the PE hinges either. Then wings.

29 August, 16:02
Ian Doody
Hmm, this is going to be interesting. As usual no idea what I'm doing, just riding by the seat of my pants. I'll try and block in all the colours then look into weathering. Who knows how this'll look.
30 August, 14:06
Ian Doody
Well, it's blueish grey now, or greyish blue. Because I'm a cantankerous stubborn fool, I paint everything with brushes, Main colours blocked in, teeny tiny fiddly bits added, now I've just got to build some more layers up, start lightening and shading areas. It won't be brilliant, but it may look good on my shelf. Which is the main thing, due to lack of space, pretty much all the aircraft I'm going to build will have folded wings.
31 August, 19:44
Mr D
Very nice, the wing internal colour looks spot on👌, l tried mixing this colour but struggled to get right tone.
Nice looking kit, what do you make of the Trumpeter kits??
Good luck with the next steps 👍👍
31 August, 21:02
Ian Doody
Hello Mr D, so far I've only looked at early Trumpeter kits, panel lines are a bit too light for me, the early ones have gimmicks like working wing folds, and the PE hinges, but they build up quite well, and to me look like what it says on the box. I've got a lot more Trumpeter and Hobby Boss kits to build up in the future.
31 August, 21:17
Ian Doody
As is my usual way, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, just going with the flow, it seems to want to be like this.
A very, very long way to go still, it'll be a lot lighter than it is now, and not so stark. I know, I shouldn't weather it until later, but i can't help it, it's a curse.
2 September, 16:23
Mr D
It's a cracking looking model 👍👍
The weathering is looking good nice balance.
The internal metal parts ....the yellow/green..Did you mix or have the colour ready in a bottle

I don't know how I missed this, but I'll get in the rocking chair for it. Word of warning though, my friend... I was at this point, when the kit, put me in a false sense of security. It's the final details, that drive you crazy.
20 May 2023, 18:04
Mona
yes weird details like the cab interior tub being a little tweeked away from the door, had to to heat the top side lip and bend slightly toward door to fit . and the work around to getting the cab, on is to fit the grill piece on the frame then the cab to the grill piece ..Lol 😉
21 May 2023, 00:03
Bozzer
Don't ya just love a challenge?
If I ever went completely insane, I'd position every single piece on the outside, then drill holes for tiny pins, to enable positive mounting of the chrome parts. And I'd do that before I even hit the cab with paint. And I'd totally get some aftermarket mirrors! I try not to touch my trucks, once they go on the shelf, but I only have to look at my freight shaker and something else falls off! I watched so many videos and read so many forums, about the joint of death, that it threw my sleep pattern, out of sync. Eventually, I taped a full sheet of 1200 grit, to a sheet of glass, and went in random circular motions, on both sides. The joint took me 3 days to glue together properly. Then, I put masking tape, as close as possible, to each side of the joint, and filled. I first filed right upto the tape, then sanded through the tape with the grit. Doing it this week, helped me preserve the rivets on the roof. I'd love to have a daycab version, like yours, but I'm still pretty sane, so I guess it's just a waiting game? Lol

Mona, the 352 Pete, KW 123, International Eagle 2, and in fairness, the Hideout Truck, are decent kits. The cruiseliner is a little bit tricky. The Revell K100 is very detailed and time consuming, however, it's extremely satisfying, if you can get one? You just picked a bad kit, that dates back to 1970, I think? I'd still rather build this, than any Euro truck, that we have over here. My next one, and last, will be a MACK (Renault) Magnum. Still collecting parts for that though.
21 May 2023, 21:40
Jonathon Herring
Bozzer! You tease! Now…….who can explain to me how to pace on the interweb?
21 May 2023, 22:07
Bozzer
Lol, personally, I'd look for the cheapest cabover you can find, from that list? I picked up my KW K123 from Ollie's, for 20 bucks, but that was a good while ago. They still sell kits, but you have to be on the ball! I chopped the roof and slammed a rocket on the back. Man, it was a piece of engineering! I should really get some pictures of it? But for $20 I didn't care? I know that you guys have large flea markets over there. I've picked up some good kits from them, and a cheap airbrush and compressor, used once, for $20 bucks! They're definitely worth checking out, if you have any close to you? Over here, I've just gone mad with everything. I'm still a big kid, who can now afford the kits I always wanted? Unfortunately, I also have the kits that I didn't know I wanted too, so I'm gonna be very busy in the future! You should see that new London Bus that I just picked up! With all the photo etch, I reckon that it's going to take me a year to build? Lol
21 May 2023, 22:37
Jonathon Herring
May the Gods of Bonding smile apon your endeavors and the imps of Hades squeal and Nash their teeth in the face of your tenacity. But beware the Omnipotent Carpet Monster🤪. Photo-etch is a mixed bag for me. Sometimes they would have us replace a 3d item with a 2d pe part. Soldering is a new ( as in practicing) skill that is light years away from consistent. Still, I use what I think enhances the model, save the rest for gizmology.

28 May 2023, 00:25
Bozzer
Yeah, he's a handy chap, our Bill. Hints and tips should be on everyone's profile, as an album. I've certainly picked up a few, during my time here, on Scalemates. It's a great community of people who enjoy the passion for paint and plastic. And there's some cracking banter along the way, too.
28 May 2023, 05:20
Bill Newcomer
Thanks Mona, I came up with that one on my own. Models just look wrong when you see the rim lip hanging out without tire bead up against it. AMT's wimpy tires need all the help they can get.
28 May 2023, 05:22
Bozzer
Bill, have you tried the Moebius set yet?
28 May 2023, 05:24
Bill Newcomer
Bozzer, I have. That is what I used on the black and gold Freightliner. Nice tires. Decent enough rims. Not a fan of the axle mounts. Had to get creative to hang them on my AMT kit.
28 May 2023, 05:57
Bozzer
Lol, there's always something to keep us busy mate. I missed out on a few sets, a couple of years ago, at a show here. Now, I can't find any over here? They're on my shopping list, for when I'm over there next though. I find them a little stiffer and more convincing. I have some resin stuff, but it's just as much work as the AMT tires. Nice prints, but lots of cleaning up, to make convincing.
28 May 2023, 06:04

Paint is everywhere around my bench. Let's see: Mission Models, AK 3rd gen, Vallejo, Tamiya x's, Mr Color Aqueous, Ammo by MiG, VMS, Army Painter, and even some craft paints for hydrocal casting. Let's not even discuss pigments, washes, oils and peripheral supplies. Even worse is the amount of paint that decorates (spills) on my desk. It's work, straighten, poke around, receive product, then reorganize so I can work again. I love it🤪

11 January, 04:02
Mona
Jonathon I been looking at this for months wondering if I could even paint one stripe ..still much to do
11 January, 04:05
Bozzer
Mona, a friendly tip :
Bleed is created by a poor seal on tape.
Bind your edges with a blunt, but solid tip. The edge of a paintbrush, can work.
Now, shoot it with clear coat.
That will seal any secret gaps!
Then, blow over your colour.
Count to seven, then blow again.
These should be light coats, I might add!
Eventually, build up to the colour you want, but you have to give it more time, between coats.
Eventually, you'll have a smile, as wide as the Grand Canyon 🙂
11 January, 19:16
Mona
@ Bozzer I appreciate the tip: many aspects of which I did apply ..but I might Add the Bleed may also be caused by the application of a: Poor quality tape b: the Incorrect type of tape . as it has been in this case. the first stripe ..the red one was first taped and the base painted with a brush ....the second stripe green was done with the air brush ...with the cheap tape from the "hobby lobby" . I purchased a better type tape yesterday ..taped it out again and shot the Red stripe the second time ...also I'm using water based acrylics on this build , and they are very light & air dried between coats.. not yet done 🙂
11 January, 20:27
Bozzer
If I'm honest, the tape I use, is just ordinary masking tape. I tried tamiya and found it to be rubbish. The only thing I use tamiya tape for now, is spacing, to create lines. Then, I mask upto the tamiya tape, and remove it.
12 January, 13:37
Jonathon Herring
@ Bozzer is this one of those "how do you keep a moron in suspense" things?🤷 Cause, you go me hooked (not a haha Herring;f fish; hooked pun. Yet it works😏) What tape do you use? Frog? Blue 3M? Memorex? Please, Bozzer, Please tell us. Also, should we pay attention to the man behind the curtain?
12 January, 18:02
Bozzer
@Jonathon. I use the cheap dollar store stuff. Granted, some of it can be sketchy. I usually buy a roll, then tear off a strip, and see how it comes off? The glue has to be even across the width, and not patchy? I also stick it on my cutting mat, to mark it out. The advantage of doing this is, when you remove it, and apply it to the model, you know exactly where to place it. Also, you can buy this tape in various widths, so it's awesome for doing murals etc. However, I don't keep the tape forever, because I find that it welds to itself, over time? So I always buy a new roll, every 6 months or so. It's only a dollar, right?
