Thanks, Appreciate the interest, lm reality new to the hobby about 14 months, finding my way with techniques.
Weathering n panel lines need more learning.
The IAR-80 was decent price from HB and liked the paint scheme...bit different

Thanks J35.
Nice to have the interest, HB instructions bit weak!
They said to paint interior charcoal black like on the FW-190.
But l checked n the Romanian lAR interior was grey/blue.
Engine building next 6 parts deal.
Cheers 😃👍

Good to have you along Miguel, engine n wings next,
A small amount of the wing is seen through bottom of cockpit, the HB instructions didn't mention painting it first!!
But the fit of the model be ok so far.

Love the idea of filling with acrylic, never thought about it. Does it hold well though time?
26 August, 13:14
Mr D
Hi, Yes lve used it alot and holds up really well , l find the fillers a bit messy and more trouble than it's worth on small gaps.
You do need to allow overnight drying with it for best sanding results.
😀👍
26 August, 13:42
Doubtingmango
Brilliant! The putty really can create a mess with finely molded details
26 August, 15:01
NLAWScametovisit
This is extremely clever!!!
26 August, 15:25
Mr D
Yes it has a habit of filling in panel lines n bits not necessary!!
This technique is same as using alot of paint to fill a gap or high build primer ect...just becomes part of the paint layer as it acrylic too.
But it's not for big gaps!! As there is a bit of shrinking overnight.
Be onto marking rivets next step after sanding... Then need to make choices on open or closed canopy???

Ive got the canopy on now, HB do nice clear glass, so I'm having a closed cockpit,

I got to get myself a chrome pen. The result on those details look awesome
4 September, 09:53
Mr D
Thanks Miguel, the pen needs a good shake prior to use , if it awkward area you can pump some out n use brush...but work fast.
Best to put a clear over next day as it's bit delicate.

Do not forget that the mast of the antenna passes through the windshield and is very clearly visible. This model may come in handy in my albums
18 September, 19:29

Ok thanks Alexander, HB didnt make the Mast installation very clear, the show it just glued on the top, will be very weak!! I've seen one build and it's come away!!
I'm going to use steel rod.

Nice collection of WTF box arts 🙂. To be fair, majority of them are from the ancient era (60's/70's/80's) of modelling, nobody focused that much on what's on the box back then (but there were also really nice looking artistic pieces from those times that I remember). I'll try to find some newer (90's and onward) box arts that I consider a "failed mission in marketing" - this one is a nice example from 2021 --> Saab TF-35 Draken (Skale Wings SS-72001, 1:72), and this one a bit older (2003), but also has a high WTF factor --> Messerschmitt Bf-109E 3/4 "H..tenkrad (Academy 2214, 1:72).

Very interesting collection of boxart. 👍

There is a reason for the shape of the boxarts made in the Soviet Union. The incompetence of the Soviet industry and the political situation influenced the creation not only of boxarts, but of entire kits produced in the former Soviet Union. Lousy boxarts were defended by claiming that the attractive color pictures on Western boxarts were just capitalist tinsel and bourgeois detailism. And a socialist doesn't need such things.
The model's box was made of poor quality cardboard with mostly two-color printing. From the modest Cyrillic inscription on the box one could read that the box contained a kit of model aircraft number xxxx, or at best, even more accurately, that it was, for example, a fighter aircraft. The instructions for building the model were printed on stiff paper, which could be successfully used as sheet metal. It contained only pictorial instructions for building the model. Any detailed information (colours, camouflage, what kind of machine it was and where it was used...) was missing. In most cases, decals were also missing. In some kits the decals were replaced by stickers. Most of these kits were pressed by the leading company Frog, which was acquired by the Soviets in the second half of the 1970s.
Curiously, the same models, but intended for the Western market, were produced under the NOVO brand. The quality and content of these kits were comparable to the original FROG kits.

looking good gorbygould. i have to finish my space now... so i may actually copy some of your ideas!
9 August 2019, 20:26
gorby
Thanks Spanjaard. I'm making minor improvements to the set up as I use the space, but it's much more ergonomically laid out. I also raised the worktop level so that I'm not bending over as much as I used to, and that's much better for my back. Just make sure you have plenty of storage when you do yours. I've filled all the drawers and have still got stuff that needs a home.
The magnetic, under-shelf tool storage works very well so I'd recommend that.

That's a good name for the room Urban, although I'm not sure I would be classed as entirely sane.
Gordon: I wish mine was that neat and organised as well! The photos are before any plastic was mangled. I've added another photo on the end to give a more accurate image of what's it's like in use.

😄 (I assume that is supposed to represent laughing – it looks more like constipation to me).
Spanjaard: The ducting was one of my slightly better ideas. It doesn't get rid of the paint smells completely, but it's much better than it was. Incidentally the stuff I used is called 'Kair System 100 Rectangular'. I bought it from a well known South American river😉 and it was quite a reasonable price - £37 all in. The brackets are overpriced but I managed to do it with just one of them.

Very nice job Gorby, and considering your self-reported aversion to labor a laudable effort indeed. I envy the natural light (my cave is in the basement, so no cigar). Nice work on the tool storage and compressor mounting as well 👍
10 August 2019, 12:41

Thanks Alec. I had hoped those years of manual labour were behind me, it's not good for your health you know. The compressor mounting works well – the rubber shelf mounting and the rubber mat absorb quite a lot of the vibration, so it sounds much quieter.

Random Penguin: I used a cheap rattle-can plastic primer from Halfords (a car accessories retailer) without any problems at all – other than the Zimm decals are quite brittle.

I fixed the zimmerit on my kit by melting it down with plastic glue, so I wasn't sure if it would hold up to a can of primer. But since you say that everything is OK, then I probably will try. It's a pity I don't have much left of zimmerit except for Suyata's logo - there is almost nowhere to check how the chemistry will react with it.
25 August 2022, 16:05

It didn't occur to me there would be a problem with the primer and fortunately there wasn't. Give it a go and you'll probably find the same.

Really liking the results, Gorby 🙂 Your notes and comments ring true for soo many of us, I'm sure 🙂 Ah, impetuous youth, where are you now...? 26 August 2022, 15:05

John: I've concluded that any right-thinking person would agree that a tank model with a full interior is a ludicrous concept at whatever scale – 1/72 & 1/76 scale doubly so. Obviously if you don't agree I'm not going to categorise you as right thinking and therefore can be safely ignored. 😉
Thanks Bruce, I've reached the stage where I know when gluing a fragile part on that it's without doubt going to get broken off at some later point in the build. I find it always helps to have some favourite swear words on hand.

Very nicely executed 'effort' as you call it. I think the colour scheme comes out very well with the subtle camouflage patches. You built the model in a 2-month time frame but do you have any idea how many hours you put into it?
8 October, 09:32
gorby
Thanks for taking the time to comment Bohrmann. 🙂
Some days I might have work on it for 3 hours and then it might be half an hour or nothing, so it's difficult to say with any accuracy how many hours it took. I do know that I spent a surprising amount of time cleaning up the parts, there are a lot of ejector pin marks and a significant mould line on many parts.
Having said that it's an amazing kit which really pushed me to the limit of my (limited) skills.

Absolutely superb work, the colour and depth of shading and shadow you've achieved is excellent.
