Despite a warm soapy water wash and air dry, 6 primer coats and rubbing back with 3000 grit the Zero paints Nara Beige lifted when demasking. The black roof had imperfections in the paint and was rubbed back and reprimed.

C1 Heritage grille in earlier images has been changed to a Defender Standard grille.

The C1 transkit brakes have been modified and Decalcas rotors (also modified) with Scale Production Brembo calipers painted in Brembo yellow.

The cabin interior was originally modified from the Revell kit but I wasn’t happy with the reworked parts and completely scratch built it. The seats are a combination of C1 models items and Hobby Design Recaro for the front.

Suspension parts under construction. I’m testing Tamiya Lacquer paints and have found them much easier to use than Zero Paints.

Still having issues with the paint - had an imperfection on the roof which needed to be sanded, filled, reprimed and painted. The right hand side headlight trim needs to be repainted and there is a chip on the leading edge of the bonnet which I now need to rectify before the final varnish.

The tray body will be getting either black checker plate or one of my references shows a varnished wooden base. Not sure which way to go yet.

The replacement engine is a Chevrolet LS3 V8, which is an aftermarket option for the real vehicle. Although not in shot, the firewall has been completed and painted body colour.

The front bumper and nudge bar are painted, next is the winch and cable.

Zero Paints 2k diamond coat applied, rubbed back with 5000, 7000 and 10000 wet and dry followed by a machine polish with Meguirs automotive polish and wax.

Despite being extra careful I’ve gone through the colour coat to the primer when polishing.

Interior under construction. The floor pan and firewall have been rebuilt (again) as the fit was incorrect. At this point the seats are temporarily tacked into place as the seat mounts are not yet built. The mounting points for the seatbelts have been drilled an the seat belt assembly (belt, buckle and retractor) are in progress.

The dash needs additional detail - radio, HVAC and instrumentation plus the passenger grab handle and both sunvisors. There are no decals for the instruments but images are available.

The seats need to have accent pinstripes added and weathered slightly to produce a more realistic effect. Also, the floor and rear cab wall need to be carpeted (I’ll experiment with flocking material for this effect) and possibly make front floor mats.

The engine, gearbox, underfloor detail and transfer case need adding, along with the door handles, mirrors and windows. The rear windows need to be tinted - this will be done with real automotive window tint. As the kit front wheel wells are inaccurate replacements need to be made (much harder than expected!).

I bought direct from the C1 models website as I wanted to model a specific vehicle and the website gives the opportunity to mix and match parts. A couple of items were missed on the order and when I contacted them they dispatched the parts immediately, so excellent service. There were a few casting bubbles on the dash but these were filled with automotive body filler. There were also a lot of small bubbles on the inner door panels which was frustrating. Some of the parts are 3D printed and take a bit of cleaning up. The biggest issue is that the Revell donor chassis is completely wrong and the engine bay is also incorrect. The Revell kit engine is for the earlier Defender but there are no replacement "Puma" engines (as used by the Land Rover factory for this series) I've replaced this with an LS3 V8 which is sometimes used on modified Defenders. In all it's not a bad model and is definitely worth the effort. This has been a quick build by my standards, it's only been on the bench for 1 1/2 months. Thanks for taking an interest.
