Area-88 Saab J35 Draken

Album image #1
I'm building this Hasegawa's kit simultaneously with MikroMir's kit. Left cockpit is Hasegawa's.

Album image #2
I added seatbelts that are made from aluminium foil.

Album image #3
Album image #4
Tail cone had some gabs that are filled with plastic sheets.

Album image #5
Album image #6
Fixing wing seam lines.

Album image #7
Album image #8
Album image #9
Album image #10
I hurried a bit with canopy.

Album image #11
Rudder being prepared. Upper pitot tube needs a tiny hole

Album image #12
0,2mm brass rod as pitot tube.

Album image #13
Some vent carving.

Album image #14
Fastly added rear lights.

Album image #15
Shin Kazama's Draken was built from Finnish frames, so this ADF antenna panel didn't have panel line in the middle.

Album image #16
First light primer (Mr.Surfacer white 1500) and some problem parts fixed with the same primer added with a brush.

Album image #17
I got an inspiration and wanted to improve navigation lights.

Album image #18
I had UV-cured nail polisher and Derwent Intense colour pencils.

Album image #19
Clear tape to keep the liquid stuff in intended place and it lets UV-light through.

Album image #20
Then just cleaning residues, sanding and polishing.

Album image #21
Similarly to left side.

Album image #22
More details!

Album image #23
Album image #24
Air scoop comparison: from left Quickboost (copied from Hasegawa but opened inlet hole and made of resin), Hasegawa and MikroMir.

Album image #25
MikroMir's IRST was a disappointment. It has a clear part and one PE-part, but the body of the IRST is too bulky and lacks panel lines. But I could use it to improve the Hasegawa's IRST.

Album image #26
Improved IRST in place

Album image #27
I had to drill a hole to the nose for Maestro Models' brass pitot tube. The fit is now so good that I could add the pitot tube after painting and everything.

Album image #28
More details added and the Draken is ready for painting camo.

Album image #29
Preshading done.

Album image #30
camo ongoing. I'm using A.MIG Middlestone FS33531

Album image #31
Camo airbrushed freehand along pencil drawn lines. Darker brown is Vallejo Air's 71.125 USAF Brown FS30219

Album image #32
Some nasty overspray...

Album image #33
Few spiders... Needs some fixing. Also A.MIG's paint is shiny but Vallejo's is matt. This doesn't matter much because varnish will even those.

Album image #34
Album image #35
Air intakes painted by hand.

Album image #36
Album image #37
Album image #38
I think painting is mostly done.

Album image #39
Album image #40
All decals applied

Album image #41
Wash applied. I finally decided to try mix a suitable wash color mixing panel liners and oil colors.

Album image #42
Maestro's pitot tube glued into a sprue with basic thin cement.

Album image #43
Pitot tube painted. Now I see the radome's failed masking (⋟﹏⋞)

Album image #44
Album image #45
Satin varnish applied and masking removed from the canopy.

Album image #46
Left one is a Falcon missile from MikroMir kit. The right one is RB27 AIM-26B Falcon by Maestro Models.

Album image #47
Missiles placed with Micro Liquitape. Landing gear doors are hold in place with blue tack.

Album image #48
My hastily done setup.

Album image #49
MiG-23 has a flashy finale 😄

Album image #50
I had enough Gundam Action Bases for this kind of use. The background is just a TV screen showing Google Earth landscape.

Album image #51
Next my photos need some heavy editing. I'm using paint.net for this.

Album image #52
Maybe a bit cartoonish, but lets see, when I get all the action pfotos edited. For these setting I had made one KP's MiG-23 for adversary.

Album image #53
Front wheel ready.

Album image #54
Some 0,2mm lead added to the main landing gear.

Album image #55
The landing gear fit nicely.

Album image #56
ex tempore need for a revetment for more action photos that need editing later.

Album image #57
Photoshoot ongoing.

Album image #58
Also some basic photos of the finished model.

Shaping up nicely! Let me join the spectator crowd! Even though I prefer the Swedish Air Force version myself. 😉

Thanks Robert and Mr! Now the model is missing just the missiles and landing gears. Before that I want to make some silly photos of it.

I staged some action photos that will take some time to edit. Next I could finish the model by making the landing gear.
