All three in place, waiting for completing.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/9/9/178099-10908-97-720.jpg)
There has been a plate above the opening, so I´m building it scratch from chocolate-alumium.

The original 8.8cm casemate...
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/0/8/178108-10908-97-720.jpg)
...and rebuilt with BMK-barrels.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/1/0/9/178109-10908-60-720.jpg)
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/1/1/0/178110-10908-34-720.jpg)
All the plastik-railing has to be removed, as König had there no "solid-railing" in 1914. So I will use normal railing with canvas.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/1/1/1/178111-10908-78-720.jpg)
Linoleum-deck added.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/1/1/2/178112-10908-26-720.jpg)

Checking if it fits in place.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/8/7/5/179875-10908-34-720.jpg)
Building the turret-prototype. This is the canvas, that closed the turret against seawater. NOT a blastbag!
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/8/7/6/179876-10908-12-720.jpg)
It´s made from foil, glued with CA.

Back of the turret with GMM-PE and a ventilation opening made from sheet.
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/8/7/8/179878-10908-57-720.jpg)
Over the rangefinders of turret "A" & "E" there´s been a blast-protection which I´ve made from aluminium.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/8/7/9/179879-10908-14-720.jpg)
Ive also added a periscope and changed some minor details.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/8/8/0/179880-10908-63-720.jpg)
Checking if it fits...
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/8/8/1/179881-10908-43-720.jpg)
The other turrets and superstructure parts. The turrets are neede first to position the superstructure properly.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/8/8/2/179882-10908-43-720.jpg)
And not to forget the "Kohlebunker-Deckel".. (*narf*)
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/8/8/3/179883-10908-47-720.jpg)
The position of the skylights and other parts are not correct in the ICM-Kit, so that I positioned them according to my plan-set.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/8/8/4/179884-10908-55-720.jpg)
Another detail that missing all models I´ve seen so far are the steel-rings around turrets "A", "C" and "E".
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/8/8/5/179885-10908-86-720.jpg)
I´ve cut them from paper. Then dryfitted, painted and glued them.
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/8/8/6/179886-10908-44-720.jpg)
Finally all "Kohlenbunkerdeckel" are in their place. Must at least be over 60 pieces. And here it´s same as mentioned above: position, seize and number given from ICM are not correct...
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/8/8/7/179887-10908-58-720.jpg)
This is the acutal state: Turrets in place, some details finished and the superstructures in place.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/2/6/4/181264-10908-24-720.jpg)
The boat-rails on the upper deck, made from heat-stretched-sprue.
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/2/6/5/181265-10908-13-720.jpg)
The aft funnel, freed from all "details".
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/2/6/6/181266-10908-27-720.jpg)
And rebuilding them in the right way 😉

![Album image #50 Album image #50](/albums/img/2/6/8/181268-10908-98-720.jpg)
![Album image #51 Album image #51](/albums/img/2/6/9/181269-10908-39-720.jpg)
In its position, just as the aft command-tower.
![Album image #52 Album image #52](/albums/img/2/7/0/181270-10908-71-720.jpg)
Thie upper turret was left from my old König. I guess, one can see the difference. 😉
![Album image #53 Album image #53](/albums/img/2/7/1/181271-10908-96-720.jpg)
Parts for the aft-superstructure.
![Album image #54 Album image #54](/albums/img/2/7/2/181272-10908-96-720.jpg)
The original kit platforms were way to thick so I rebuilt them from 0.3mm Sheet.
![Album image #55 Album image #55](/albums/img/2/7/3/181273-10908-44-720.jpg)
The plattform-structure completed.
![Album image #56 Album image #56](/albums/img/2/7/6/181276-10908-97-720.jpg)
![Album image #57 Album image #57](/albums/img/2/7/4/181274-10908-91-720.jpg)
Also the mast was rebuilt by using wire in different diameters.
![Album image #58 Album image #58](/albums/img/2/7/7/181277-10908-16-720.jpg)
The 8.8 got some parts from the spare-box. In the WEM-fret, these parts are inclluded.
![Album image #59 Album image #59](/albums/img/2/7/8/181278-10908-82-720.jpg)
And in their position.
![Album image #60 Album image #60](/albums/img/2/7/5/181275-10908-21-720.jpg)
The aft superstructure completed.
![Album image #61 Album image #61](/albums/img/2/7/9/181279-10908-32-720.jpg)
Th plattforms included in the kit got the wrong shape for S.M.S. König, so I had to cut them from sheet too.
![Album image #62 Album image #62](/albums/img/2/8/0/181280-10908-70-720.jpg)

![Album image #90 Album image #90](/albums/img/6/0/9/200609-10908-71-720.jpg)
The boats, given in the kit are not all in correct number or the correct type. According to my archives I decided to built the two kutters located in the davits and also a large kutter and a motorboat kl. III.
![Album image #91 Album image #91](/albums/img/6/1/0/200610-10908-91-720.jpg)

The ladders for the cutters had to be scratchbuilt, as there are no fitting PE-parts. So I used some heat-stretched-sprue.
![Album image #136 Album image #136](/albums/img/2/8/6/221286-10908-46-720.jpg)
Painted with Tamiya deck-tan for the ropes and revell 17 for the woods. THere are two of them for each cutter.
![Album image #137 Album image #137](/albums/img/2/8/7/221287-10908-62-720.jpg)
Actual state of the model. The König itself is nearly finished, only the complete rig is missing. It will ba added after the boats and their cradles are in position.
![Album image #138 Album image #138](/albums/img/0/9/1/222091-10908-53-720.jpg)
Scratchbuildung the boat-cradles, as the form, given in the kit, isn´t even close to the original one´s..
![Album image #139 Album image #139](/albums/img/0/9/2/222092-10908-49-720.jpg)

Testing if the boat fits in...
![Album image #141 Album image #141](/albums/img/0/9/4/222094-10908-52-720.jpg)
...and if everything fits on deck.
![Album image #142 Album image #142](/albums/img/0/9/5/222095-10908-45-720.jpg)
Adding some canvas, just like shown on the photos.
![Album image #143 Album image #143](/albums/img/0/9/6/222096-10908-44-720.jpg)
Some work needs to be done on the "Motorboot Klasse C"
![Album image #144 Album image #144](/albums/img/0/9/7/222097-10908-44-720.jpg)
Both together
![Album image #145 Album image #145](/albums/img/0/9/8/222098-10908-63-720.jpg)

![Album image #146 Album image #146](/albums/img/0/9/9/222099-10908-37-720.jpg)
![Album image #147 Album image #147](/albums/img/1/0/0/222100-10908-54-720.jpg)
Actual state of the project. Only the rigging of the torpedonets and the masts ist missing... But first I need to do some research on this.
![Album image #148 Album image #148](/albums/img/9/2/0/228920-10908-94-720.jpg)
Starting of the rigging. First with the "Fockmast", and the "stehendes Gut".
![Album image #149 Album image #149](/albums/img/9/2/1/228921-10908-17-720.jpg)
![Album image #150 Album image #150](/albums/img/9/2/2/228922-10908-44-720.jpg)
Same procedure with the "Hauptmast".
![Album image #151 Album image #151](/albums/img/9/2/3/228923-10908-47-720.jpg)
Adding the missing parts of the masts. I´m placing this late, bacause other wise, I would allways have ripped them off during work. 😉
![Album image #152 Album image #152](/albums/img/9/2/4/228924-10908-94-720.jpg)
Naxt step is the rig between the masts, used for radio.
![Album image #153 Album image #153](/albums/img/9/2/5/228925-10908-29-720.jpg)
First one in place. I´ll bring them later to right size, with heat, when all four of them are in place.
![Album image #154 Album image #154](/albums/img/9/2/6/228926-10908-69-720.jpg)
![Album image #155 Album image #155](/albums/img/9/2/7/228927-10908-20-720.jpg)
Finished, only the paint is missing. (see next picture)
![Album image #156 Album image #156](/albums/img/9/2/8/228928-10908-30-720.jpg)
![Album image #157 Album image #157](/albums/img/9/2/9/228929-10908-82-720.jpg)
Adding the "laufendes Gut" for the signals a.s.o.
![Album image #158 Album image #158](/albums/img/9/3/0/228930-10908-84-720.jpg)
Starting with the rigging of the torpedonets. Quite a bit complicate, so it takes a while...
![Album image #159 Album image #159](/albums/img/9/3/1/228931-10908-59-720.jpg)
First of all everything needed for using the rig has to be in place. (Made from coper-wire)
![Album image #160 Album image #160](/albums/img/9/3/2/228932-10908-65-720.jpg)
One side finished. Hard to see... 😉
![Album image #161 Album image #161](/albums/img/9/3/3/228933-10908-51-720.jpg)
So here´s a macro-picture...
![Album image #162 Album image #162](/albums/img/9/3/4/228934-10908-93-720.jpg)
![Album image #163 Album image #163](/albums/img/9/3/5/228935-10908-74-720.jpg)
This is, what the bow looks like.
![Album image #164 Album image #164](/albums/img/9/3/6/228936-10908-46-720.jpg)
Both sides completed. So its almost finished. Only the flags, the figure and the socket are missing, but will be added soon.

![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Thank you.
We´ll see how it goes 😄
I´ve already started with teh next steps.
26 April 2015, 18:56
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
They´re "very special"😉
It is not possible, to built a correct state of one of the ships out of the box.
The mast fits not to the 8,8.Kasematte or the torpedonet-derricks, a.s.o.
But they´re still the only kits of a Linienschiff...
27 April 2015, 09:03
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Another step ahs been done.
The anchor-equipment has been completed, some smaler parts have already recived paint and a bit of extra work.
And the forward superstructure has been particular completed.
Of course with some scratchbuilt details😉
Hope you like it.

Holy Moly a very nice and fine work and a lot of replacements you have done so far Mathias. Seems to me you spent some extra hours because of a fast progress
Looking forward to more of this!
Cheers, Christian

![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Thx, Christian.
There´ll be surely more to come.
I´ve already finished turret "E" and started with the aft "superstructure".
I think the next pictures will follow this weekend. 🙂
Btw:
I can spend so much time on my model since I´m sick at home.
Thx to the navy... 🤔

![](/profiles/img/16661-726-s.jpg)
Amazing precision on all these fiddly details, great ! I like the " dock " too😉

![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
4 May 2015, 17:46
![](/profiles/img/16661-726-s.jpg)
Klarlack! Wieder was gelernt!
4 May 2015, 19:08
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
4 May 2015, 20:13
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
5 May 2015, 17:04
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
5 May 2015, 19:44
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
The next step is completed:
Upperdeck work is mostly done, 80% of the turrets and the superstructure are in place.
10 May 2015, 11:31
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
Well done so far and with all the extra effort S.M.S. König will be an eycatcher!
10 May 2015, 11:41
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Another parts added to the model and so I also added some pictures to the album😉
I´ve completed the aft superstructure as far as possible at this state of the project and started to built forward superstructure.
Hope you like it. 🙂

![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
Hi Mathias, very nice and convincing progress. Just one question, why you did not use PE handrails? Flyhawk and Alliance has some nice on in their program! The self made ones looks quite nice but according to the photos it seems to me they are to far off the surface?!
17 May 2015, 09:54
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Moinsen Christian:
Solche Sachen einfach selbst machen.
17 May 2015, 10:29
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
VG, Christian
17 May 2015, 14:42
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
17 May 2015, 14:50
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
17 May 2015, 14:59
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
I´ve continued to build the forward superstructure and the mast.
Next step will be the deck-equipment and the boats, i guess...
13 June 2015, 10:56
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Hello Holger,
Now that you mention it...
Strangly I didn´t use any Teelichtalu on this on, until now.
Unbelievable, but true.😉
The Nock is not provided in the GMM-Set.
It´s scratchbuilt from sheet, the support is from copperwire.
13 June 2015, 17:26
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Well, thank you.
Maybe, if you can manage to come to our 2. Stammtisch, you´ll be able to see it "live and in color".😉
14 June 2015, 09:19
![](/profiles/img/10232-810-s.jpg)
Well, i try to manage that, Mathias!Would be nice indeed! Than i´ll bring my destroyer and you can build it whilst we talk!😉
14 June 2015, 12:52
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Muahaha.
I don´t think so.
At the moment, I don´t realy like to bulid german WWII destroyers...
As you can see.😉
14 June 2015, 14:03
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
Very nice and convincing progress. By the way, what do you use for the canvas covers? It does not look like PVA glue I normally use.
14 June 2015, 14:25
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
I use tissue, reduced from 4 to 1 layer.
And then I glue it to the railing with woodglue.
14 June 2015, 19:10
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
mmhhh, keine Probleme auch an Kurven. Aber so hat jeder seinen Weg😉
15 June 2015, 17:16
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
A few more pics uploaded.
I´ve finished the cranes and also the Mittelartillerie.
2 July 2015, 16:43
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
Very nice and convincing progress Mathias! I like the amount of detail you put into this excellent work. Doubled rigged stay, dark painted stairs inside the ladders, complex rigging etc. !
Cheers, Christian
4 July 2015, 07:03
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Thanks Christian.
Maybe I´ll be at Wilnsdorf next year, of course together with the König.😉
So you can see it "live and in color". 😄
4 July 2015, 09:38
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
In the meantime, after the weathercondition became more comfortable I was able to continue my S.M.S. König.
I added one of the kutters, propellers, railing, a.s.o.
Hope you like it. 🙂
24 August 2015, 16:00
![](/profiles/img/10232-810-s.jpg)
Wonderful work, so far! Dont know where i should start to shout: "Bravo"!👍
25 August 2015, 04:19
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Therefore I´m back at school (Elektrotechniker Meister) I´ve only made little progress.
The recognition markings on turret B and D have been completed, even though the decals have been a complete desaster.
I´ve also completed the railing and the second Kutter.
Meanwhile I´ve recognized, that I´ve made a REALY BIG MISTAKE... 😮
Just like everyone, that has build a König-class so far: 😉
The boatcradles are not running on two rails, as suggest by ICM and everyone else.
Pictures prove, that they´re running on ONE rail, which is embed in the deck.
14 October 2015, 17:18
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
The painted recon markings look very good Mathias, but about the boat cradle – mmmmhh, shame on you😉
14 October 2015, 18:12
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
I noticed that just an expert of the special topic will notice such mistakes. But anyhow, your S.M.S. König is a very nice and detailed build!
Hope to see it next year!
15 October 2015, 18:13
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
@Holger:
No we won´t. 😉
But you can see it here live:
(0., )
@Christian:
Well, I don´t know, if I´ll make it to Wilnsdorf, as I´m back at school at the moment (Elektromeister HWK) and this will take until august 2016.
16 October 2015, 08:25
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
Good news Mathias, but is your school a residential school without exit at the weekend😉
Good luck for your further training!
Cherrs, Christian
16 October 2015, 17:29
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Again some minor progress, like fitting the torpedonet stowage, position lights and the "Nachtrettungsboje".
24 October 2015, 10:34
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
The torpedonet-stowag is completed and the torpedonet in place.
There are only some minor things left to make, like the boat-cradles, the boats, crest, ...
Hope you like it.
22 November 2015, 16:05
![](/profiles/img/10792-966-s.jpg)
That looks much convincing Mathias! Would be fine you describe in detail the materials and method you use to represent the torpedo net.
TIA, Cheers, Christian
22 November 2015, 16:50
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Thank you both.
@CHristian: But I´m only able to do this in german...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
23 November 2015, 19:35
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Nearly finished.
Only the boats and the rigging is left on my "to.do"list.
Hope you like it.
------------------------------------------------------------
Die Zielgerade ist in Sicht. 🙂
30 November 2015, 16:10
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
superb job so far... enjoy the last steps, although they are not the most easy ones I think...
30 November 2015, 16:47
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Allright.
Meanwhile if finished the boat-cradles an the two boats themself.
The "Kutter" got a canvas, the "Motorboot Kl. C" was a bit more modified.
PE-parts for windows, stearing wheel, rudder, a.s.o. Some bulleyes were added, wooden decks, ...
So the ship is almost finished.
The only thing missing is the rigging of the masts and the torpedonets.
I need to do some research in this, as almost every plan is showing König after the rebuiling from 1916. 🙁
Hope you like it. 🙂
6 December 2015, 10:43
![](/profiles/img/16140-555-s.jpg)
Great work, Mathias!👍 It's again fascinating to watch your prjoect grow.
7 December 2015, 06:07
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
So the König is nearly finished. The missing rig is added, which took a while, because it ain´t as easy as I first thought.😉
The last steps will be the flags, the figure and the socket.
Hope you like it so far.
8 January 2016, 15:11
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
some fine work at the rigging... some mighty fine work... me like a lot.... do you use copper wire for the complete rigging? or also streched sprue or something else?
8 January 2016, 15:46
![](/profiles/img/10908-326-s.jpg)
Thank you, Bart.
The complete rigging is made from heat-stretched-sprue.
Usualy I use matching colors, so that I don´t have to paint it.
But this time the black one didn´t work, don´t know why...
8 January 2016, 18:55

Here are the pictures of the finished model, just click the link:
Linienschiff S.M.S. König (ICM / ) | Album by Graf Spee (1:350)
9 January 2016, 19:31
Album info
Building log of my version from ICM´s S.M.S. König - kit in 1:350 scale.
Using GMM and some WEM photoetch-material.
I will try to build her in her first state, just at the brick of war.
In this album you can find the updates of the projcets progress.
Fell free to comment or to ask.
Hope you like it. 🙂
