Just started this build today with a first dry fit 🙂
Look's ok so far - the only gaps are on the left and right intake side

Thanks Stephan! I hope I will be able to spend some more time on it the next couple of weeks. One thing to watch out for is the plug on it's spine where large gaps appear.

Hehe Choppa😢
And now to something completetly different ...
The insides of the air intakes are a nightmare
You can choose between gap, edge or both
Will have to think about the best solution...

Stephan have you glued everything? i am asking because in my trials i found it best not to glue the intake Ss and the nose section bottom until the very last moment which let me to arrange their fit. granted the seam line from S to the intake ramps is still there but at least it won't be visible unless you get in with a mirror in.

NP Stephan, entire intake section and the nose section will benefit from dryfitting, only place that i needed putty was the leading edge wing roots to the intake joint as a result.

Taking a seat as well.
Can anybody tell me why a Phantom build is celebrated and a Falcon build reviled? Just seems that way to me 🙂

Thank you gents, you're all welcome 🙂
@Martin - I can't tell you why - I just started this and asked a question, and that started the celebration😉
I think a lot of us have this kit or a variant of it in stash and everyone is interested in how to build it up without falling into a trap... 🙂

Hey guys, I don't mind either way. I have a preference for 50's & 60's jets, but I can appreciate any good job.
@Patrick, warming up the seat!

I think F-4 is the most used topic in this site. Not that I complain about it, since I am also guilty a mild case of phantomadiction.... :-p

The next issue is to find the right elevators for the C version... Part 3 and 4 are used in the Eduard manual- Academy say's do not use part 3 and 4 .... mmh
I will post some pictures of the difference later

As the F-4C is the first Air Force incarnation of the Phantom all the caracteristics of the Navy's F-4B were taken over except they put in a larger main landing gear in bulged wings. This means the F-4B's unslotted and unpatched elevators are used. i.e. the right ones. You're modeling a Vietnam era F-4C so that should be the ones. In later years they could be swapped sometimes as all the elevators are interchangeable.

Added some pictures 🙂
most of the main hull is done and ready for primer
added also a picture of the intake section - you still can see a little gap - but it depends on the angle you´re looking into it - I´m quite happy with that, cause the plane will be displayed from the side
hope you like it 🙂
also did some work on the gun pod - will post some pictures tomorrow

Hi Stephan, shouldn't the square block behind the "head rest" be sanded away? It looks like the head rest sits too far forward. It should sit snug under the curve in the metal seat frame.

I see what you mean, in my instructions there even has to be a PE part on top. But then again the head rest is underneath the curved frame.

Great job! That was the one I was going to do but I could not get the stripes to come together without a line that drove me nuts.

@ Donald
I started from the top, took a lot of softner for the decals and squeezed the ends of the decals very carefully in each other. After all got dry I cut of the edges of the decals (which were to long by 5mm) over the wings. Then I used a little bit of thin blue color to break the impression of the existing line so that this is not visible for my eyes anymore. Then I used two layers of glossy coat, added the different layers of wash (white, grey, black) and used two thin layers of matt coat in different directions to finalised.
all went well - so I´m happy with the result 🙂
