A lot of progress made. I did all the same work and primed it with mr. Surfacer 1500 black. Then the two gray colors topside neutral gray bottom light ghost. At this point it occurred to me that this was going to be a tail sitter and I hadn't put any weight in the nose. So I carved a flap just in front of the nose gear well, squished some split shot and showed them in there then poured super glue in there.
Once that was sealed up and fixed I went back and re-sprayed some areas. Then at that point we were ready for the exhaust. I used Alclad stainless steel, burnt iron, light burnt metal, and a very small bit of hot metal blue. Then I put on the vertical stabs. Next I have to paint the nose cone and then I will gloss it up and do all these wonderful decals.

I swear I am snake bit with models right now. Sat down to go to work on the decals. The pics pretty much say everything. They are un usable. Even with a coating of decal sealant on them. So gonna have to set this aside until I find a set of decals I like.

Clifford, I sure as hell am not. LOL Ah well, is what it is. I did find an interesting and colorful set that go on a black paint job. So going over this one wont be a big issue.

You do know that the picture of the decals states 1/48 and your build is 1/72?
Or is the picture just to show us what you're getting?

Got the new decals today. Painted her black, did the intakes and wheel wells and glossed her up. Give it a day or two to set well then start putting the decals on. An interesting note in the decal instructions about this plane. It evidently flew with absolutely nothing hanging. No tanks, no pylons, nothing. Debating on whether to fill the holes or leave them be.

Well done for hanging in there and changing scheme after Decals let you down. She will be worth the effort once finished

So, I got to work on the decals tonight. First, these are very nice decals! Nicely done, good color and opaque. Only thing is the numbering on the sheet. You have to pay VERY close attention to determine which is which. Just a little point to direct you. Not a biggy really. They went on nicely and settled in mostly on their own. In the directions, Skyhart says not to use decal set, and mostly its not needed. Mainly over the curves in the fuselage. Also, this set is clearly intended for wheels up. Had to tack the cover in place and carefully cut the decals once they were on just right.
So the left side is done. The fun part will be doing the right, lining all of the parts up AND getting them even with the left side.

Alrighty! Wrapped this one up in time to be the last of 17. There are a few things I need to figure out still. I did not fill in the holes for the pylons. As I mentioned, this plane supposedly flew with these markings with nothing at all under it. Not sure yet if I want to say screw it and put somethingt here regardless or not. I have ordered a master brass pitot tube, so that will be taken care of shortly. I realize the one on there is crooked.
As I said, the decals were good. But, they WERE fragile. Very easy to tear them. I managed to mix up the pink and blue to cover any of my screw ups. 😄
Overall, not my best, but certainly not my worst. Still wish the original decals had been good though. Argh.

Oh, I had to use the kitchen window sill because the lights were washing out the colors. Badly. Even indirect. So i had to do the natural light thing. And it is flipping -13 celsius with the wind chill here. So I was NOT going outside to do these pics!

Album info
Well, I started this one a while back, before I moved back in July. I had forgotten about it until Clifford mentioned he was doing three and I should try that. He was joking, but of course I took it to heart. LOL
So I was looking around for something easy to slip in with the Phantom and Bone, and my eyes focuse don the packing box this kit and someother stuff was in. And I remembered. And as Mr Keesler didnt say try 3 at a time that havent been started...
So here we go! The cock pit was done and ensconced in the nose already. I got the intakes together and the fuselage together with wings last night.
