Ferrari 641/2

The tire on the right is a sample of three of the four in the kit. It's deteriorating. Purchasing was too expensive, Tamiya doesn't have any so I had to make some.

A full tire in a two part mold was tried but didn't work out well for me so, half and half it is

A little 2 part epoxy, some clamps and we're off.

Not too bad for an amateur.

A little filling and sanding....
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/0/9/9/648099-15981-42-720.jpg)
Had to cut the rims in half to get them in and had to clean out the centre of the tires to get the rims to fit

Couple of coats of Tamiya Rubber Black and things are looking up. (They are actually much darker...my photography skills aren't going to win any awards, either!)

After applying the 28 year old decals from the kit (yep, I was nervous!), they turned out pretty good. A few snafu's here and there but better than I had....
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/9/3/6/648936-15981-54-720.jpg)
A little black pencil lead on 400 grit paper, brushed over the decals brings the bright white down a notch.

Calling them done. Rims are not done, only test fitted. Pretty happy with the "homemade" tires, all in all.

Now, with the tires out of the way, off to the booth with the body.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/9/3/4/648934-15981-69-720.jpg)
First light coat of primer.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/7/6/6/650766-15981-50-720.jpg)
A couple of coats of TS-8, a few days to dry then on to the decals.

Interesting tyre replacement. Surprised I don't see more of that for the 1 12 Heller kits everyone seems to love so much.

Nice work! That Mansell guy was found in quite a bunch of different racing cars…! I'm also interested in the molding procedure you did at this one.

Thanks, folks! It's been awhile. I got away from this build after some frustrations with other parts. I will get back someday but for now, it sits in a box in my stash.
@Emanuel & Mark. The material is just your basic resin kit bought from Michael's Craft Store. Two part rubber for the mold, two part resin for the tires. I made a few attempts at molding one piece tires but just couldn't get it to work, so I ended up molding each half and joining them with epoxy.
