Mustang III
I guess that happens when Vallejo acrylics are diluted in a not appropriate manner!

A few new picture of the growing Mustang III. This one will show full D-Day markings; applying the white will be the next step.

Black and white stripes have been painted and masked, "Neutral Grey" on the underside have been painted. No on to "Ocean Gray"!

I guess that happens when Vallejo acrylics are diluted in a not appropriate manner! I am now going to create a fitting "Ocean Gray" with trusty Gunze acrylics.
"Vallejos" will be used solely as a reference for mixing suitable shades henceforth.

Looks kind-of realistic though... If it would be predictable, could actually be a useful technique... But at the moment, I hear your complaint!😉

Can you do a light sanding to remove the Vallejo without damaging the preshading (or kit details for that matter)?

To my great pleasure I have found a good approach for Ocean Gray in a 1:1 mix of Gunze H69 "RLM 75" with H56 "Intermediate Blue". I personally find the result amazingly close to Vallejos variant of this colour and so, to my great pleasure, will be used as a substitute for Ocean Grey.
Gordon, to be honest: I have sanded this Vallejo "priming" smooth and put a new preshading on the surfaces before working with the mentioned mixed Gunze- paints 🙂

The painting is almost finished - I will "liven up" the stripes a little bit to bring out the provisional and hand brushed character

Finally done! Even this Mustang has been tamed -at least. The most troublesome area of the final steps had been the "Malcolm" canopy. To short in span it did not reach to the canopy rails when shown open, what was my will to do. I found a solution in building up the height of the cockpit edge with plastic card, which was sanded and re-painted. It did work in the end but was challenging....
After all I am rather happy how impressive this thoroughbred looks when standing on the workbench -also because of its coat of D-Day stripes!
