Wasteland Buzzard

Album image #1
MPC's Rat Trap Vega is a simple kit (no chrome or clear parts) that made for an easy conversion to the buzzard. I didn't have to make any modifications to the basic structure of the vehicle, just build it out of the box, and add the detailing to it. I added ribs to the front, and a bit of armor to the windshield opening.

Album image #2
I covered the roof with the iconic scrap-metal spikes that define buzzard vehicles, but I had to leave the driver's side clear for vehicle entry and access to the fuel tanks.

Album image #3
Driver access is through the window opening. I added two large fuel tanks to give the buzzard plenty of range, and to store any "guzzoline" he might capture.

Album image #4
I added a spiked rear bumper and a spiked shield plate to protect the fuel tanks and the rear of the vehicle. And because buzzards are all about destruction, and seem to favor saws, I added two circular saws mounted on hydraulic cylinders to the trunk area.

Thanks for the comment! This was, I think, my easiest wasteland build. The kit I used as a base was a very simple kit, and the design of the car was perfect, so I didn't have to make any structural changes-- just add on the details I wanted. Plus, since it's a buzzard, I didn't even use a colored base coat-- I just primed it black, and went straight to the rust.

Thanks guys! Why the frustration, JD? Your Doc Brown's DeLorean is a detailing masterpiece. You've definitely got the skills.

Thanks for the compliment 🙂 I know I have a tendency, and I imagine other modelers do as well, to be more impressed with the work of others than with my own. I think it stems from knowing what went into my work, where the mistakes are, or the failures to meet my own expectations in the finished model. When looking at someone else's work, I know only the result I am seeing, not what the builder sees.

Nice job, very effective. Reminds me of the VW from the 1974 Australian movie The cars that ate Paris
