Thank you guys. It was a bit tricky with the salt, I had to try it twice. I didn't use enough water the first time. As a result, a lot of salt was blown away with the airbrush. Also, I hadn't let the salt dry out sufficiently. So for all imitators: let the salt dry really well before applying the paint. And when the salt is down again, clean it well with enough water (and detergent).

That's a very used Tomcat 😮 . Maybe too much, but perhaps I don't have the reference picks you have. Still impressive execution and great looking model 👍, I imagine the Revell kit was quite sparse in detail? Weathering is certainly something you're good at.

What stuff do you airbrush over the salt? Just other shades of gray? I finally bought some coarse salt, would be fun to try out this salt technique myself.

Yes, Alexander, in retrospect the Tomcat actually looks a little dark. It was maybe one wash too many. I had read a lot from former F-14 technicians who described the jet as really very smeared and dirty on the surface. Well, if I took better photos later, it will look a little brighter.
@Treehugger: yes, I mixed the base color with a little black and then lightly sprayed this over the salt. The color only settles in places, it looks spotty. You can see it very nicely on my photo of the elevator. Then you can repeat the whole thing again with a slightly lighter color.

Ah, and yes, the Revell model has only sparse details and the panel lines are way too wide in my opinion. In addition, a lot has to be reworked, as clear gaps affect the accuracy of fit.

Ohh, now it doesn't look so over-weathered. Certainly due to the lighting, but I like it much better now. 👍

Thank you. This new pictures with 5400k lights show much better the real brightness. The building process pictures are taken with a smartphone camera under bad light conditions so that it seems to be too dark. I guess I need better lights on my workspace to see the real colors while building and not only when I take final pictures. 🤔😉

I have the same problem, I use a small and rather cheap camera for wip pictures but a much more elaborate camera and the help of natural sunlight for good lighting for the final pictures.
