Initial impressions: The kit is molded in color, for the most part, but the grey seems much darker than the box art and reference images I'm finding.

Quick initial build. Compared to my normal methodology this is gonna be sloppy LOL But, I thought it would be interesting to see how it looks "as-is" right out of the box without doing much in the way of refining... I sort of succeeded 😉

Finishing the quick-build carried over into a second day, largely because I have a problem not sanding and taking note of parts that are not best with their "fit."
Anyway, here is what the Gelgoog Marine looks like right out of the box.

I did paint one thing, the mono-eye plate, black. Couldn't bring myself to use the supplied black sticker, however since this is temporary I did use the red mono-eye sticker just to complete this quick-build! 😛

The bottom rear of his bell-bottoms didn't want to meet, so a tiny bit of glue was used. The seams are going to need work in several places.

The tips of his shoulders, likewise, do not want to meet up well. And the vents, as well as the interior of the shoulder pads are supposed to be red. If this were an Real Grade kit, the vents at least would probably have been molded in red. 😉

Top seams of the torso were quite uneven...

Album image #11
As were the sides (right through the middle of the side vents, of course).

The vernier thruster assemblies in the calves confuse me. They went through the trouble designing an joint connector that allows for movement (up, down, side-to-side). But, once you put the rear calf panels on the thrusters are locked down?? Odd.

Album image #14
Fairly poseable, but after building the RG Sazabi, the level of articulation limitations, particularly of these older HG kits, I'm really wishing there were more classic MS kits made for the RG line (I have to say, I am excited to try the new HG Origins Char's Zaku II which I hear is nearly at RG level).

Album image #15
Yes, they opted to mold the ENTIRE beam saber with the clear plastic... 😛

Excellent wear and tear on the battle damage!

Thanks CaptGPF! :]
I had fun experimenting with this one. A nice, inexpensive, but cool mobile suit to play with effects.

For those who don't to paint:
I pleasantly surprised how much of a finished look I could get with just layered washes, very minimal hand painting, using cotton swabs before everything dries and, after drying, some judicious scuffing of the results using sanding sticks/hobby-knife blades.
Just remember to top coat to lock it down!

Album info

Stumbled on this Gelgoog from "0083: Stardust Memory" at a local store called "Lil Thingamajigs!"
And that was not the only surprise, the kit only set me back $13.99! 🙂
Granted, it's just a HG (and a 20 year old tooling), but I've always liked the design.
Going to start it as a quick 1-or-2 day build as my better-half also had picked up a kit that caught her eye, so we're going to build together again (almost exactly a year ago she built her very first kit (HG of Char's Zaku II). Maybe this will become an annual thing?? LOL
Anyway, a quick initial build to show what it looks like "out-of-the-box," then I'll probably tear it back down to do more serious work on seems, and decide if I'm going with the classic paint scheme or taking it in another direction - time will tell. 😉 ....

So, after several months sitting (August 2022 - March 2023), I took this nearly apart and rebuilt, painted, tried to fix/hide seams, all while experimenting with new tools to assist with battle damage: rotary tool and soldering iron!

I'm amazed at how differently the finished suit looks in different lightning and how some details appear under each condition.
