Land Rover Safari - Kenya

The look I'm going for minus the zebra. 

Always that lone Acacia tree in the photos. 

An idea for the how my Land Rover may end up. 

Starting with the base on this build as I didn't have the model or figures yet.  

Slight contours added with wall filler. 

Sandstone masonry paint and white glue to seal the filler. 

Fine sand added. 

Red/brown paint and white glue mix. 

Dusting with Desert Yellow. 

Further dusting with Buff. 

Time for some life with small flock. 

The zebra are missing but looks a pretty good likeness for the original photo. 

Some small static grass added. 

Chopped up old paint brush fibres for some longer grass. More may be added later. 

My Acacia tree and a fallen one to the right. Almost finished but there may be more grass, etc. added once the models are in place and I can see what's needed. The tree and bush foliage will need some lightening too at some point. 

You can just hopefully make out a faint track from the right towards the front left, which is where the Land Rover will be along somewhere.

A start on the Land Rover. A problem with the Italeri kit is it having six stud wheels. I would have been perfectly oblivious otherwise, not being a Land Rover nerd and all, but reading on another forum that Land Rovers only ever had five studs and being a bit of a perfectionist and not wanting to spend upwards of another £20 to buy a set of wheels with the correct five studs, I decided to just slice my nuts off and replace them. Sounds painful I know, but I am of course referring to the wheel nuts on the kit. Hopefully once primed, painted and weathered, any visible scars from the operation will be concealed.  

Configuring my safari seating. Rear seats will be raised slightly. 

Starting to look more like a Land Rover now. 

Some seat belt and floor mats added. 

Fuel cap supplied in the kit but useless unless you cut your own hole. 

Panels didn't line up too bad eventually. 

Front windscreen, windows, bumper and headlights on. Now the tricky part to turn it into my safari Land Rover with some figures inside. 

My bespoke, comfy, well used, forward facing safari seats. 

A few adjustments, but the vehicle is pretty much complete now. 

Time to join me on a safari on the plains of Kenya as we are now complete.

It's amazing where these SAS guys turn up!!! 

Lunch and cold drinks are supplied.
